  1. Looks like the deal is over now.
  2. For anybody who travels with watches. the brown Wolf roll is on a huge discount. It's quite nice for the money, assuming it's like the one I already have (I bought another).
  3. I personally found the sound to be goopy, and there was a certain "kermit quality" to the midrange.
  4. The Santos is probably my most worn watch that isn’t by Apple, but the Drive extra flat is a lot of fun.
  5. I knew one of his first studio students (she was a full professor by the time I met her). I have some Bream in my personal catalog. RIP.
  6. Today's watch. Gotta keep it fancy. Goes great with whatever today's "look" is.
  7. Today. I'm still doing the "your dad in 1968,” but a different 1968.
  8. Today's watch. Still doesn't unlock my computers. It goes great with today's look, which is "your dad on vacation in 1968."
  9. Thanks! It’s been a great visit so far. We both tested negative for COVID last week and have essentially been in isolation, and we are taking normal precautions when around anybody (picking up good, etc). it’s been nice wearing a real watch, though I’d prefer if the Rolex would unlock my computers automatically.
  10. My partner is going to be here this weekend (very soon, in fact!) . I haven't seen her since February. She begged me to not wear an Apple watch while she was here, as I've been obsessed with my step count (I average about 30k daily). I was planning on wearing a Speedy, as I put one of mine on a NATO for summer. but for some reason this felt right (goes great with my Ren and Stimpy socks and Birkies).
  11. 2CV is my dream car. I’ve had fast cars. What I want is a silly, but practical, car. The 2CV is very silly, but very practical.
  12. It will have to wait for me to try again, when my neuropathy calms down. You should have bought a pre-moon 144.022-69 5 years ago :). The car I learned to drive in was a '73 Beetle that my dad was constantly "restoring," I don't think he was ever actually going to finish, even when his brother owned a rather famous European auto and body shop, and we would drive down to Atlanta to use those services. The journey, not the destination.
  13. I have been convinced to keep it. I'll try again later. It really does look great!
  14. It would look great on your FOIS. Send me your address, Sam.
  15. The JB Champion reissue looks great, but something I didn't expect is that my hands have gotten bad enough (I have been diagnosed with neuro-sarcoidosis, and I have tremor and loss of sensation in my fingertips) that I can't get the thing to adjust when I'm wearing it. I'll happily send it to any Head-Case Speedy owner who would like it, just pay shipping. I used most of the adhesive lug protectors, so you would want to buy some of these.
  16. I guess it helps having more than one Speedy, so you can have one casual and one more formal: hint hint
  17. I think it looks fine. I miss my Ball Worldtimer.
  18. It is likely possible to fill the engraving using a laser and bar stock, and then polishing it out. It's a pretty common jewelry technique, these days. What is the base metal, 316L? Laser engraving is usually pretty shallow, so I would just have it polished out.
  19. Get an Omega NATO, If you don’t have one. They are superb.
  20. I will definitely post pics! And that strap you had made is beautiful. The Speedies work so well with so many kinds of bands. It totally changes the watch.
  21. I'm surprised this has taken so long to be made. I've had an original, made in 1969 or 1970 (this was before they became crazy expensive), and it was too small and cheaply made. Of course NASA chose the JB Champion 19mm bracelet because it was fragile: if an astronaut caught the watch on something while floating in their capsule, it would likely break instead of breaking the spacecraft. It looked pretty cool, though. This looks really great. Better made and better sized (I care much less about "authenticity" these days). I dunno if I'll wear it on my old one or my new one. I bought the horned end version. The coupon code MOON gets you free priority shipping, for anybody interested. https://forstnerbands.com/products/forstner-komfit-jb-mesh-watch-band-with-horned-ends
  22. I hope you find a solution that works for you best, Nate. I'm vegan and wearing a kimono, so what the hell do I know?
  23. Gotcha. I'm just a fan of the simplest solution that works, these days. My smoking these days is in the form of tofu and my Smoking Gun, anyway.
