  1. You can easily remotely wipe a windows install in Bootcamp, the same way you can on a PC. They are both basically the same hardware. I used to set this up for NSF and NIH grant stuff all the time. There is no difference, and it's certainly a "clean install" on a new partition.
  2. Part of my responsibilities at my last job was managing the certified repair shop for the universities bookstore (we were actually by far the largest IT organization for the campus, in terms of customer base, but had the smallest budget and fewest personnel; go figure). We got very few repairs for the butterfly keyboard machines, and, trust me, the 17,000 students we supported were HARD on their laptops. The main keyboard related issue requiring replacement were actually failed trackpad cables and failed HD cables on 2012-2015 MBP due to flexing of the keyboard right over the cable connectors. My main machine is currently my 2013 retina MBP with 8 GB of RAM. I only break out the i7 iMac (also a 2013 machine), these days, when I'm using very large datasets in Excel, where 32GB of RAM and the much faster SSD come in real, real handy (the extra CPU horsepower also doesn't hurt) or when I'm listening to my headphone rig and sitting in my Eames clone. The MBP runs great on the Catalina beta. Better than El Capitan, actually. I had been sort of thinking about upgrading this year, but I don't see any particular need to, at this point. Besides, this MBP is already nice and beat up, so I don't have to worry about OCD'ing over new scratches. When I do replace the MBP, it will almost certainly be with a new iPad Pro, which will replace both this and my first-get iPad Pro.
  3. Hah. I'm sure a lot of their behavior makes sense on whatever planet they come from. Things like loving to sit on the corner, and only the corner, of a bed.
  4. You know; that makes me realize that, if I ever put a speaker rig together again (I'm not counting my soundbar and sub), I should probably do something that is raised significantly, though the cats haven't actually scratched up the sub, yet, for whatever reason.
  5. All of you and your Seamasters are making me want one again!!
  6. I'm so used to that I didn't even think about it. Good point!
  7. They must not have cats, or those coins would no longer be on the corner.
  8. Hell; Andy Warhol didn't even set or wind his watches, so I think you get a pass. I miss my 300M, now. It really is a damned good looking watch!
  9. Dunhill has been sick the last few days. My neighborhood had a parade, and I couldn't get to my usual vet. Went to the vet where my mother used to take her dogs. They don't take walk-ins. I didn't know that. They took us. Three shots later, and the puking has stopped and he is hungry again.
  10. I basically only buy close-outs. Last year's fabrics ain't that different from this year's, but sure are a lot cheaper!
  11. It looks brilliant! I do really love the 1931 tribute dial. I would skip HSM, in your case; even their slim fit is pretty "traditional." Try Brooks "Milano", or the Samuelsohn "Yardley" fit (this is a fit made specifically for Saks), both of which are quite trim. The Hickey-Freeman "H" fit might also work for you, but they are fairly short jackets in that fit (a bit shorter than the slightly cropped Samuelsohn fit I mentioned). All of these are fairly easily found at steep discount, especially if you hit SaksOff5th or NM Lastcall during the right sale, and Brooks often has steep closeouts.
  12. It's somewhere between bespoke and tailored. They use pre-sized blanks but then customize the whole thing for you. I got a great price, thanks to a promo code (I ordered 8 weeks ago, I think). The bracelet is a Paloma Picasso Tiffany "Infinity" in sterling and yellow gold. I really like it, and it will work great for me until I can afford a Juste un clou. I think it looks great!
  13. I got a made-to-measure Brooks cotton jacket, today. Not bad. Looks good with a Pepsi.
  14. If Ikea made HiFi speakers, it would be those! I mean that as a compliment: they look great.
  15. I've put the new Speedy on a Vollmer mesh bracelet. I do think it looks very nice, and it's extremely comfortable. I need to the get the clasp laser engraved with an Omega logo, though.
  16. It's a very robust movement.
  17. It's been done, and better.
  18. He was a supporter of BSA, and was a professor at my Alma Mater.
  19. So. That is Mr. Armstrong in the middle-stage-left. That is me, four youths over, wearing my Philmont belt. Some sort of Casio watch on my wrist.
  20. I almost brought a third cat into the household. He was adopted before I could (his name was Hugo, he was 12, and had been at the SCPA for several months). Maybe I shouldn't bring a third cat in, but I love cats so much, and Hugo was so expressive, and I love old kitties.
  21. Thank you; I was going for a certain caricature of 1969, with that outfit. And yup. https://www.hodinkee.com/articles/the-omega-speedmaster-professional-moonwatch-caliber-321-platinum
  22. Probably not a big surprise that the Pre-Moon has been on my wrist this week.
  23. One of the nice things about working at my first real job was that we could* use the mastering studio after hours to listen to music. High end (at the time) Genelec setup. It was great. *I mean, we weren't supposed to, but IT had master keys.
