So it got me wondering what is up with Vanessa these days. Still making music. She had a 2020 release (above). It was a good listen. I enjoyed the playing and the production a lot. Delicate pieces with lovely melody and structure. And then I just played the next thing in the queue - just happen to be another short album. It may not be my go to for this work, but it good.

Connections Matthew Whitaker 2021 https://album.link/i/1574793651 Example: I went into this one blind. I thought I heard or heard-of Matthew before (this is where Al will say - yes, we went to an SF Jazz show, and we met him - I can accept that). But I went in pretty blind, and at first, I was not sure. It felt like it was a little bit out there and a touch out of control, but then the songs just kept coming, 16 of them for almost an hour and a half. It started to feel more like a jam session (or a series of them). And they were all over the place, standards (like the Rondo above), to heavy groove tracks. I queued it up again before I began this post, and I don't have any reservations that I had before. This will go into rotation.
