Wavelength WaveLink Asynchronous USB to S/PDIF converter.

I was reminded of the quote "SPDIF is so bad it has given birth to its own Snake Oil ecosystem. Here is a monument to it : from The Extremist DAC -
Wavelength WaveLink Asynchronous USB to S/PDIF converter.
Grahame replied to Hopstretch's topic in Home Source Components
Wow, quite the discussion I appear to have sparked. I appreciate not all use cases are the same, but given the availability of things like, say Virtual Village - US | USB Mini Converter to SPDIF Output for $32, is that "good enough" to solve the problem at hand. If jitter on the input S/PDIF is an issue, get something with a word clock input, and clock your audio bits, using the clock on your DAC. problem solved. If your DAC uses ASRC, or reclocks the incoming bits, why are we having this conversation? And why would you want your noisy, RMI/EMI emitting computer, within the maximum length of a usb cable, electrically coupled to your dac? Just some thoughts to play with -
Wavelength WaveLink Asynchronous USB to S/PDIF converter.

Anyone find the price of this excessive, given the price of a squeezebox (or SB touch) which can be considered an async TCP/IP to S/PDIF (and toslink) converter? or am I missing something? -
Checked out the Sony Z5 for a few days shooting; Went up to the Marin headlands to get some stock footage. Got Amanda and Daisy to tell me about their day at Love Fest. Got Some night shots in San Rafael.

Completed the Basic Field Camera Production course at Community Media Center of Marin together with the Basic Final Cut Pro Editing course. Which now means I'm "certified" to check out the Sony HVR-Z5 Sony HVR-Z5 Camera Review - WWW.URBANFOX.TV and use the iMacs in their edit suite. This is primarily so I can act as an additional technical resource for my neighbors , who are making a series for the local public access channel. It also means that the next Mayberry on acid can be captured for prosperity, in HD or for broadcast in SD, if we want to go public!

Sweet. Now I know what Ti meant by his cryptic "Watch this space" announcement at the recent nor-cal meet. Now people will need to rethink their HiFi2000 front panels -

It does more than play lossy mp3's, it now plays lossless flac's out of the box. Here's a review of the Original SanDisk Sansa Clip Review And one for the new plus. SanDisk Sansa Clip+ Plus Review Ask Iron Dreamer how good a source it is for the JH-13's I like both mine (albeit with lowly ER-4P's). Being able to Drag N Drop files from a foobar / squeezecenter library onto a USB mounted device is nice'n'easy. The MicroSD card fits into a SDHC converter, meaning the music files can go straight into the SDHC slot on my mini9. SQ (with decent source material) is surprisingly good. For someone not in the iFamily, there is a lot to like.

Ed, It appears I made some unwarranted assumptions. You, however, appear to have thought it through. How fire resistant is that cat6e again?
