My very own Beta 22 thread
I got it all fixed. I rewired it through a on-off-on 125v 5A switch. Redid the grounds to simplify things and now it's happy

Yeah, but it still didn't make any sense to me what he was trying to get across. I don't see how the signals can end up in series playing the difference between them. The connection is the same as it is for the phones. It's the same signal continued on from the headphone jack bridged with a capacitor and resistor at the posts. I may be missing something monumentally obvious but damned if I know what. Anyway, I have a 6 pin switch I can wire all this through.

Probably a wiring error. I don't have a pic, but if you look at the diagram from amb posted above, my cap is fitted before the resistor on the positive post, amb has it resistor then cap. I'm wondering if this may be the trouble, I don't really know but I imagine if it's in series the cap won't be too happy about getting the signal before being tamed by the resistor. I bought two sets just in case

yeah, it all looks and measure fine, it just doesn't work, I'll double check tonight. I wonder if the zobel is doing something funky. An other dumb question from the dumb question machine, running a 12V DC fan off a 6V AC supply? Hmm, I looked at my zobel and I have cap>resistor + to - and ambs diagram shows resistor>cap + to - will this do what I'm hearing, having it reversed from his drawing?

WTF is this? Nightmare Bug?

Happy birthday Crapps- My very own Beta 22 thread
also, one of the reasons for taking it off the jack was so it'd be a easy way of switching one to the other just by plugging or unplugging the phones. Seems like that might be off the menu now.- My very own Beta 22 thread
the jack is this one http://www.mouser.com/Search/ProductDetail.aspx?qs=tdfQxhgBXr8%252bLeL3kwf5rw%3d%3d- My very own Beta 22 thread
Yeah, I did it from the jack and amb said a bunch of things that didn't compute with me and made no sense to my feeble brain.. MY POST Ok, I have a strange problem that I don't understand, maybe someone could shed some light on it. I wired up the speaker outs with zobel last night but something is very wrong somewhere. The speaker outs are wired from the headphone exits so they;re off when phones are plugged in. Wires go from there to the zobel and posts. Now, testing continuity and resistance, it all looks perfect. No continuity with phones in, continuity with phones out. I check the posts to chassis, open, I play something and I get a reading from positive to chassis. I have no idea why this is, and what;s coming out of them is very quiet, distant and has a weird out of phase, sorta mono sound. It looks right, it just doesn't work for some reason. AMBs POST I don't recommend wiring the speaker outs that way. Most "switched" headphoen jacks do so on the "ground" leg, and all you're getting when iyou plug in the headphones is to lift that ground. But the speaker "grouhds" are still connected to each other, so you have, in effect, both speakers now in series across the L and R output terminals. What you're hearing is the difference signal between the left and right channels. To make this work you'd need a headphone jack with two switches so you could "disconnect" the left and right speaker grounds independently, but even if you could find such a jack, would its switch contacts be rated high enough for speaker use? ME now this doesn;t make any sense to me but then I'm not the sharpest tool in the shed. I need help. What he says makes sense in what I'm hearing but from there I'm just confused. All the grounds are common anyway and the signals are just an extension of what's connected to the jack.. The Neutrik socket lifts all three contacts when the phones are in.- My very own Beta 22 thread
How do I wire this for speakers (stax box) and headphones. I tried what I thought was workable but apparently not. I couldn't find anything on ambs site regarding wiring both so I don't know how it;s supposed to be done.- diy speaker amp suggestion
but what about all the parts needed to populate it, that'll come to a pretty penny I'm sure- Happy birthday, Justin!
Hope you had a great one! Happy belated Birthday Justin- Happy birthday, manaox2!
Dang, missed another one. Happy Birthday Mana- RIP Billy Mays...
I was shocked and stunned, of all the salesmen on telly, Billy was by far my fave His shit, no matter how shitty was still awesome by association with Billy. RIP big guy. MJ shoulda had BM as his promoter.- Group Build: Dynafet
Crap, I was in Frys looking for long insulated probes like that but no joy, only those daft stubby things.- Need B22 S22 EHHA help
Heh, big holes under each board. Full step bit big holes, two under each Beta board and under each EHHA board. It is getting good ventilation where it needs it and the top has a set of large holes too with added space between the top and the marble slab. I'll be upgrading the S22 sinks (plenty of space) and I bought a metal box to place over the heater transfo. It's quiet already but more shielding never hurts I'll be keeping a close watch on it. Don, yes I did try the 800 on the EHHA. It's very good but not my thing. There's something about the anonymity of it's sound that left me feeling very neutral about it. Not enough heft in the bass either.- Need B22 S22 EHHA help
cool, not sure of sink size on my S22 but I can order bigger ones. I also need to get one of those 3 screw slot board connectors for the fourth output, which is currently empty. I only have the twin ones. I suppose I ncoud use external connectors as it's not likely to come out any time soon. Digger, my toroid is 160vA.. big hairy monster Bugger it, couldn't wait... Now we'll see ig it overheats. The S22 sinks get hot, no doubt about that but not much more than either set of boards alone. It's too hot to hold my hand on the inks for more than a couple of seconds but that's about the same as the EHHA sinks and I upgraded those. Hot little bugger. Great hearing both together!- Need B22 S22 EHHA help
Heh, sitting here with Kelviz having our mini meet and I'm listening to the HD800 )- Need B22 S22 EHHA help
You're all talking to one of the worlds mentally challenged here, I wouldn't know what to measure and as to the math... bottom in class 3 years running. Yes, it's a miracle I can walk and breathe at the same time- The Headcase Stax thread
The EHHA amp is running my Stax transfo box very nicely right now, though the Stax are getting plenty of volume the Beyers are significantly less efficient which is restricting volume levels. Very nice sound all the same.- Need B22 S22 EHHA help
There is room for a second S22, the toroid is external.- Need B22 S22 EHHA help
Well, yeah, one running my dyanamics, one with my stats in them. People seem to think it'd overheat the S22 regulators or whatever. - Well, damn, it's crappy's birthday, too!
