Group Build: Dynafet
I have no idea what you're talking about I look at it this way, if the boards are something around $100 stuffed, give or take, why wouldn't I do it when the rest is already here

Group Build: Dynafet
Awesome, I have a Beta 22 coming so theoretically I could get two boards and a switch between the beta and Dynafet, maybe even in the same case as long as heat is well managed and carefully laid out. Now that could be a possibility providing 2 board isn't overly expensive for my meagre funds. Time to go back and look at BoMs

Group Build: Dynafet
When talking Sigma 22, are we saying a standard 3-board Beta 22 PSU will do the job? If so I may already have that covered.. If that is the case then I'd just need two boards and ancillary pieces. Is this correct or am I being a dumbass again and missing the obvious?

Group Build: Dynafet
I imagine it's here to keep the general masses from polluting the thread too much and keep things H-C oriented. Speaking of pollution... I'm dumb as a box of sand and don't understand any of this technical stuff. What is the most basic and simple SE option for one of these? Two boards and a PSU or what.. I read the answers to Torpedos post and I'm still baffled.

Thankfully my teeny wee heed has no such problems with phones. This place seems to be full of melon heads :D

My K1000 arrived today!
I sometimes think some older amps may be better suited to the K1k, something very smooth with a sweet top end. The K1k can be very top aggressive with a bad match. My old Hafler amp doesn't do anything nasty with them at the top and they sound glorious. Anyway, I discovered the pad adjusters and pad fitting method because I'm a compulsive fiddler/tweaker. I can't leave anything alone if I like it.

My K1000 arrived today!
With my workaday set I did gently bend the bands out a little which helps with the pressure. Opening the pads helps as did reversing the front pad so they both taper in to the front. That provides your temples with a more uniform pad area rather than two padded spikes. After these quick and reversible mods they are much more comfy for the long run. Anyway, glad you're enjoying them, they are very, very fucking cool And the fatigue thing, some find them to have a steely metallic top end, I found no such with my old hafler amp but apparently some have this problem. *shrugs*

What did you do today?
I was thinking more along the lines of 'it takes one to know one' but whatever...

The Orthodynamic Thread
Yep, first by adding a crescent moon shaped piece of foam under the pads at the rear, and most recently by putting O2 pads on them. I don't know that it does too much for soundstage, though it is nice to have the sounds from in front rather than middle or back of the head. It does make them a lot more comfy though, not clamping the ear rims.

Looking for a mid/low priced, high performing full size can
Who can blame him, service pack 3 stopped my ears working for a week and then I got a virus with made everything stuffy and congested.

Looking for a mid/low priced, high performing full size can
In my case it's usually unexpected and I suddenly get this sensation of rumbling innards and I quickly whip off the phones to see what the hell is going on. It can be disconcerting at times, like when you hear those thing coming from outside your phones normal soundstage range. It never ceases to freak me out when that happens, especially when I'm alone

Group Build: Dynafet
I am so gonna get one of those cases, a Dynafet will very probably be well out of my pricerange because I do have to ask... very sheepishly. As others have indicated, those of us with no knowledge of such things don't even have a general ball park figure to work from and without some rough guesstimation of cost, it's hard to commit. *edit* Ah, yep that price is well above my threshold.

I've Got Wood!
I can't imagine there are very many of them, certainly puts out weenie little headphone prices into perspective. I'll never bitch about $300 headphones ever again

I've Got Wood!
Wooo, whats that sexy arm there? I didn't notice it before but it has a look to it. Yes, I think I like the cut of it's jib!

I've Got Wood!
Wow, nice woody there Voltron old bean! Remember, give it a good spray of Pledge every day to keep it shiny and smelling nice

It's weird but my more bassy phones give the effect of body bass. It actually feels like the bass is vibrating inside you. Total audio-trickery on the brain of course, but very convincing all the same. I've only come across it on a few phones and it's quite a sensation. The phones need strong and very deep bass to pull it off and also a tight ear seal.

Should I just get a Pico???
It's hard to do a real comparison as the Spitty is coax/ spdif and being fed optically from a crappy Soundblaster PCMCIA card which apparently isn't bit perfect and I only listened to it via the Big Joe power amp so I can't really say how it differs from the Gamma. The reason I got the Gamma was to use USB as a mobile setup. However, the Gamma/mini3 sounds better with my particular headphone type (ortho) I don't think they (with crappy soundcard) were showing their real potential. I would be keeping them bot but I need to get some cash.
-
What did you do today?
This one is a high power 5 gain. It works fine from a DAP that doesn't have quite the output of the Gamma. I think it's putting out about 2x the signal. Couple that with high amp gain and the volume knob hovers pretty low. I need to get another mini3 with lower gain just for this purpose and keep the current one for strictly DAP use. They sound seriously good though. My orthos have never sounded better.
-
Should I just get a Pico???
I was pretty gobsmacked with how powerful the mini 3 is. The Gamma 1 DAC just arrived today from MisterX and listening through them via my mini PC feeding orthos is pretty phenomenal. It has enough juice to run all my orthos, very strongly with ease. I can't imagine the sextetts can be too much harder to drive. I mean, this is seriously loud and thunderous in ways my bigger amps never quite managed. They're fairly low impedance though and the mini3 does seem to do exceptionally well at high current output. .....Dang!!
-
What did you do today?
Nice Beefy, I'm listening to mine right now and I'm impressed. I wonder if there's any easy way to lower the output, my mini3 is loud even a low volume and I'm getting a little imbalance..

Post the last thing you bought!
Some very dark Ebony and a very pretty sheet of Camphor burl which I'm sure will stink up the whole place when I start working on it.. Yup, it was damned expensive too

There is a bit of info on the Buffalo, and from what I've read it's all good! Keep your fingers crossed and you may be contacted...
