This isn't some dust, this is some of the insides actually rattling about. Imagine if one of the stator plates was a bit lose, that's what it sounds like. It actually rattles if you give it a little shake or a tap with a finger.

Woe is me. I think one of my pro drivers is going on the fritz. I heard some static type crackling noised and some discharge sounds (like something was deflating) and the driver now audibly rattles if tapped or shaken. I think something inside has come loose. It still plays and sounds pretty much like the other one though it fart crackles more now with varying air pressure than before. I think my new Stax Smegma will be short lived...

Nice rack indeed Steve, build one like that and your business would increase tenfold.

Ah, that's better, now it looks the part. Hangers always look better with their intended cargo. Nice!

I haven't had/heard the SRM-1 mkII but by all accounts it's a fine amp. I certainly wouldn't kick it out of bed. If you get an SR-Lambda with it they should make a fine combination. Mine sound great from a transformer and I'd hazard a guess the amp will perform at least as well and better in some respects. I'd have bought one myself except that they always ended up costing more than I could spend. If you can grab one for a sane price I don't see you losing in any way. Even if you hated it you can easily recoup your cost.

Hmmm, that thing would look even more awesome with a custom spray job. Shame I'll never get to hear it but damn, it's nice to look at.

Lathe question
thanks everyone! Heh, these are only the second and third cups I've ever made so I'm still very new at this and not particularly good at matching pairs. I turned the ply driver mounting boards and when it's all where I want it I'll glue it all together. The grill/felt is held with silicone as a softer damping mount. the drivers will be epoxy glued and the base/cups will be woodglued. I did get a set of the SFI drivers and they're waiting their turn in the shop. I still have to do the Gammas and Lambdas. All woody all the time It's fun as hell doing it, even though I end up with numerous cuts, burns and aches.

Ok, couldn't resist making a better set as the rosewood is a bit coarse and I wasn't happy with the shape and rear opening. I set off to woodcraft and got some nice Madrona, a Staples wire bin and some wool felt from the local craft store and set to it. I'll get it all fitted tomorrow with cable holes etc. Sounds wonderful.- Staying awake
It's also an age thing. As a youngster I would regularly go for weeks on end with no sleep. These days if I'm not in bed by 8pm with a warm cocoa and hot water bottle I'm trashed for the next month.- The Menace
