  1. Nochnoi Dozyor was pretty faithful. But yeah, that's exactly why I hated it so much.
  2. On the one hand, I hated the second one so bad, I'm tempted to out-and-out boycott this one. On the other, my movie-watching buddies will probably watch it, and I'll probably capitulate and watch it with them. Maybe. There are so many other good movies that I'm thinking they can do that on one of the nights that I'm not available.
  3. That's too bad. But I wish him well. That said, when I was unemployed, I seriously considered doing custom HT installs (which would have been a complete change of vocation for me).
  4. Why does your soundcard need to be plugged in? Get one that doesn't. There's a start. I run my M-Audio Sonica straight into my amp, it's fine. Now, I realize the M-Audio Sonica is not your solution, but what you need is one of those new quality DACs with (a) a balanced output, and ( a USB input.
  5. These are so sexy. Regular: Black and less black FTW:
  6. Yeah, nothing sticks to fries very well. They have to be fresh out of the deep fat fryer, I.E. still wet.
  7. That's what I was trying to say. I think I should get points for interpreting the question correctly. Even if my answer wasn't as lucid. You got that right. Can you say, 'musician'?
  8. Seconds Out is a really good place to start. If you want to start with a studio album, Trick of the Tail would be my recommendation. My favourites are Foxtrot, Nursery Cryme and Selling England by the Pound. ...Lamb... is considered their creative peak, but it would be like getting into Pink Floyd by getting The Wall -- great album, but not indicative of their spacier/space-rockier moments at all (DSOTM, Animals, WYWH, "Echoes", "One of These Days", etc.). Genesis are very accomplished songwriters, with a proggy bent, so that's what you should want to hear, methinky.
  9. No. And you're not being unreasonable. L, Kevin Deal even knows what period his came from. I mean, if it's an esoteric tube, you shouldn't expect much variety in your choices, but I still don't think it's unreasonable to ask what brand you'd be getting if you ordered them within the next two days. And I realized you haven't spoiled anything yet, but please keep your fucking television discussions to your fucking selves, cocksuckers. I do intend to watch Deadwood someday, you fucking fucks.
  10. Actually, that was Nate that used a period. He's just more laid back. It's like Sennheiser vs. Grado, w/Nate being the Sennheiser, and you being the Grado. It's not like one is better than the other, some of us don't like exclamation points.
  11. [agreeably]Okay.[/agreeably] But I can't help but wonder if this is what happened.
  12. Rush are amazing live. Jethro Tull are great, too. You going to any of the Genesis dates? Seems like you'd like them. I could be wrong, though.
  13. Oooh...kaaaay...if the thoughts that are provoked are along the lines of "How did such genius go so wildly wrong?" and "WTF?!?!?" I did like the fight scene in the third one, though. With the sonic booms.
  14. FTW! Rock fool head! 'n'all that nonsense.
  15. It's like postjack 1602. You been reading Marvel 1602?
  16. I disagree with this entirely. Redbook and SACD and high-rate PCM are just different. I don't care what sort of processing you do to them, I have yet to hear SACD rendered moot. That said -- I wouldn't worry about getting a disc player at all unless it had more than just redbook capability -- if you're only concerned about redbook, I'd get a media-server type computer and a nice external DAC. But I believe in the shiny, so that's why my recommendations were what they were.
  17. Yeah, but then you rule out SACD and/or DVD-A. Denon 3910, modded by perhaps SACDMods (I'm extremely happy with mine) Ayre C-5xe (MSRP US$5995 -- used should be less) Linn Unidisc SC (MSRP US$4995) McCormack UDP-1 (MSRP US$3495) deluxe Conrad-Johnson version (MSRP US$3995)
  18. It's one of the few that I have...my first, in fact. It's very good, you should see it.
  19. Yeah, but then you wouldn't have the L3000.
  20. That concept rocks my fool head off.
  21. Oh, okay, I could see how you could read it that way...face value...
  22. I lust after them, but I have to admit to never having heard them. I've heard the following: in the early editions with the Beryllium tweeter, they just put a Beryllium tweeter on the old box. With the newer ones, they re-engineered the crossover to compliment the tweeter more. Unfortunately, I do not know where that dividing line is. EDIT: no, wait a minute, I did hear one pair -- either the novas or the divas or something -- their entry level pair in the Utopia line -- they were divine. It only had three drivers and a very slender footprint. Unfortunately, it was north of US$3K, and was more than I was willing to spend at the time. If I had known how cheap of a price the salesperson was quoting me, I woulda bought them in a heartbeat and flipped 'em.
  23. Yeah, I tried a couple different sources, and all of them said that AT requires them to bring in the headphones. They at least need a serial number.
  24. Impossible, without the headphones. I've tried. They've since required you to send in your headphones to get repaired, I.E. they will not sell the drivers without the rest of the headphones.
