But I really liked that firework-factory-on-fire vid -- though I think what that guy was saying at the end was, "at this point, this explosion killed the photographer. The only reason we got the video is because he was posting it to the internet in realtime..." Let's see if I can that magnesium storage facility fire...meh, can't find it right now, but if you ever hear the words "magnesium storage facility" and "fire" in the same breath, get in your car and start driving in the opposite direction as fast as you can. Yes. Why? Because no one setup is perfect at everything, so whatever weaknesses the first rig has, your second rig should excel at. For example, if one rig is the most detailed rig you have, but is mediocre on prat, then your second rig should be the rig with the most prat. And, as others have said, there's no shame in trying to come up with the one most well-rounded rig one can, neither.

It's called "verification". The more statistical evidence one has towards a theory, the better.

I don't think you judge a speaker's frequency response on its apparent ability to reproduce frequency, I think you should judge it on its actual ability to reproduce frequency -- sorta like not judging a book by its cover. I'm just saying -- I didn't hear anything missing when I had mine. I will tell you it was in a small room, but -- I've also heard floorstanders with less bass. And they went pretty loud (pleasantly so). Those woofers are relatively huge (especially for a non-floorstander) -- about the size of a dinner plate, yes. They're not "bookshelves" per se, as they wouldn't fit on the average bookshelf (also, the port's on the back).

No, that's what I'm saying -- I have a nice sub that went down to 23 Hz or so, and I didn't feel I needed it -- I truly consider it a fullrange speaker, despite it not being a floorstander. I ran it without a sub. But then, I was listening in near field, so...take that into account...

I had a Musical Fidelity A300^CR power amp driving those things, and they weren't suffering in the low bass department at all.

Believe it or not, there are other hobbies more insane than this one. Microphones, for example -- there are people who collect microphones. This one, for example, is, offhand, the most expensive one I could find in a readily available catalog -- which means there are easily more expensive ones that aren't in the catalog: What else you got?

I have the balanced Max in my list. It overshadows the E.A.R. HP4 by a margin. And I really don't see this thread degenerating much more than that last post. So if you blame anyone, blame yourself.
