One of which was Sony. But yeah, I hate the specific subsets of those companies (EMI, Universal, Sony/BMG, Warner, and 5.1) that pursued DualDisc as a distribution medium. WTF?!? Is it that much cheaper to glue a CD and a DVD back-to-back than it is to just give us both, separately, in a digipak or double-sided jewel case or something?

Um...you know it's no longer an invitation-only forum, don't-cha? MHO: HA2 -- just so that Dave gets off my back about mine. A more entry-levelly-priced balanced amp would definitely be a good thing. The world has enough DACs -- if you want to enter into that fray, be my guest, but jebus, I'd stay hella far away from it, myself. Unless you want to give yourself a twist -- like a USB driver that bypasses that mixer problem (K-mixer? G-mixer?), or upsamples post-HDCD-decode. Something to stand it apart from the crowd.

I was (web)crawling around the Sony site to see if there was an update to the OS of my SCD-CE775, and stumbled across this -- sorta explains why my Sony player fucked up my God Forbid DualDisc, dunnit. I could come to hate Sony. I think I'm going to get rid of my player and get a Pioneer universal.

Wow, bizarre. I'm pretty familiar with Bad Religion's sound, and I just don't picture them doing that kind of music. I'll have to check it out now.

I think he meant modding the Denon, but I think what the rest of you aren't getting is that the Denon, being a DVD player, stays with the TV. So a DAC is out, he needs a transport, too. Is that right? PS I have no suggestions. I also have no bananas.

They do? I don't know, the PS-1's I heard had a bit too much bass, and the Leatherheads I heard did not...I don't see how that can be called similar...Hirsch? Do you still have the PS-1's?

Not really. Or rather, not really well.

Early Pink Floyd == acid rock. So yeah, that qualifies. Radiohead == jury still out. They definitely have qualities of "space" and "psych", but they're basically a pop band, IMHO. Yes == to me, they define prog. One of my top 10 favourite bands/artists of all time. Going to see Rick Wakeman (solo grand piano tour, retiring afterwards) in June. Easily my favourite pop/rock keyboardist. Can -- now listening to Future Days -- weaves a curvy line between pop, rock, space, kraut rock, and just plain jamming. Recommended. Need to get some of the other SACD's of theirs that came out.

What's the difference between censorship and not letting people join? I mean, don't get me wrong, I wouldn't want Merton on here -- some people win arguments through sheer stamina, and he would be one of them, I'd relent just to get him to shut up -- but if this is an experiment in open expression, I really don't see that happening if you are that careful to pick and choose who can join. To me, it seems like the same thing.

You should also be thinking about either HD radio or XM or Sirius or satellite or possibly just internet radio...

Well, can't have this thread without mentioning Porcupine Tree, so I'll mention them: Porcupine Tree -- so there, I mentioned them. If you like this type of music and you haven't heard them, you should at least check them out. No, seriously, they've recently been remastering a lot of their back catalog, and the impossible to get Lightbulb Sun should be coming up soon. Stars Die (the compilation) is a good place to start. Warning: multiple versions of practically all their albums exist, so do your homework first -- decide, for example, beforehand, whether or not you must have the remasters and bonus tracks, or if you'd rather just get all the important tracks for cheap on the used market (both are certainly viable decisions).

Sucks to be you. Some of the CGI look pretty lame, so you're not missing that much -- basically, it's a collage of shots of people dealing with snakes, and snakes dealing with people (and one cat). The ending shot is of the drink cart loaded up with snakes flying down the aisle straight at the camera.

Yeah: turn 'em upside down (I'm serious -- tweeters at ear level is a good rule of thumb). You may also want to try them sideways (either both tweeters in, or both tweeters out). In terms of toe-in, just play with it -- try aiming them at you, try aiming them straight ahead (past you), try aiming them crosswise (left speaker to right ear, etc.). Toe-in is a trick to get the treble right. Speakers tend to be brightest straight in front of the tweeter, and goes down as you move away from directly on-axis. There is an optimal balance somewhere within that gradient. That said, there are always exceptions, and I'm not familiar with your speakers.
