I don't think it costs 1/3 more if you factor in shipping. I guess that depends on the shipping.
And then we're also getting into Pico territory.
And you're right -- I thought it had (non-USB) digital ins. My mistake.
First of all, I'm not entirely sure that's true -- we breathe about 2% through the pores in our skin.
Secondly, he could be just saying that the air around his ears get stagnant and they get sweaty as a result. Which is how I thought it was meant.
I'd be contingently interested, depending on the timing (I.E. if it happens right away, then I'm out, if it doesn't happen until, say, October, then I'm in).
In answer to the original question: Philips SHP8500/27, obviously. + $10 mp3 player (yes, they exist; no, they're not iPods). And that leaves $15 in change. That's what it looks like to me. (Or possibly a lizard about to eat a watermelon, I think is what the original image was.)
Considering who you are, I don't think the warning applies in your case. Even I know who you are, and I hardly frequent Head-Fi anymore at all.
Welcome to head-case, sorry about your thin skin, the back of your head, and your liver.
Probably just got caught in mid eye-turn, but yeah, he looks like he's about to set the glass on its side so that no-one can refill it.
Nice glassware, guys!
Please let us know what you find out. If the DSD1796 is only being used for the headphone output, then what is being used for the analog outputs? That sounds like an HDMI spec, but that's just a guess (converting DSD to PCM etc.). If you find anything out about that, I'd be curious about that, too.
