  1. Unless someone is shipping you something else, i had a one or two things i wanted to order i think, i'm in Germany for atleast1-2 more weeks so if you want just contact me =) They dont seem to have any free shipping actions running at the moment but theres still a small chance to hit their "every 85th order is free" thing EDIT: just looked and in fact they dont ship to the US and Canada
  2. I think in the DiyAudio Thread the chips main designer went in to further detail about the architecture, if i remember correctly it basicaly upsamples to 352,8kHz but, i also think i'm missing something,i posted to say there was information about it on the DIYAudio thread though that was the 9008 chip and not the newer one though
  3. I think Kate Bush makes for an ideal example ,not distorted but almost always on the edge of brightness or sibilant
  4. anyone thinks this wouldnt be safe enough for overland shipping? cardboard box has a second bottom then big bubble film and a layer of this shredded cardboard material then the small individual packs with some more bubble film and another pack ontop in bubble film sack ,more shredded cardboard stuff and the air cushions.. i actually enjoyed the packing or, the evolution of it started with piece of cardboard top and bottom of the populated pcbs and evolved into a crazy folding box with bracket there are 2β22 and 2σ22 boards inside, i hope they survive the shipping without more double boxing
  5. There is a long thread somewhere on DIYaudio about a volume controls with LED/LDR arrangements i think if you search for Lightspeed attenuator you should find it. I have not heard one but to my understanding, in theory it should have the shortest signal path and least parts in there. You'd have to watch the impendances and the measured distortion may be higher than with other approaches. With seperate LEDs and LDRs you'd have to match everything quite carefully and make sure there are no leaks. With LEDs/LDRs in one package matching is probably more difficult. I don't have a clue about a shunt configuration..
  6. Either on the german hifi-forum or on the other site with those initials some people were comparing it to the ATH-A1000 soundwise and thought the drivers might actually be A1000 drivers. I havent heard either but i thought that might help when looking for impressions
  7. Looks like some HarmanKardon integrated, nothing very confidence inspiring concerning the tonal character .. Do you actually find them harsh and lacking in the lower midrange? I hope they open up somehow, the few AT woodies (W1/5000+something i dont remember) i heard all sounded somehow distant unemotional and lacked in the lower end. I thought from what i read the ESW9 would have a different sound signature though If they don't satisfy you maybe Beyerdynamic is closer to what you want, if you consider the DT880 don't go for the old model though as in comparison it's rather bass-shy and distant sounding too
  8. Looks solid! I didn't know there were special jigs to make dovetails! I bet it's not as much fun as doing them by hand though! not that i could do that personally Awesome idea for the DAC, i think some nice timber joints make wooden enclosures even more visually appealing If you wanted to eliminate the screws maybe you you could make something like the french keyed joint with the key being inserted horizontally from the rearpanel. Would mean to divide the sides though , and a lot more work (potentially fun.)
  9. Compared to other Grado phones (i don't know the RS1) the K271S bass is a lot more conservative, that supposedly changes a bit with velour pads though. Considering you're used to the Grado sound* i think you might be missing something in the highs too. Earlier AKGs might be a better fit for your sound I'd second the Dt770 or maybe 990 though *assuming the RS1 is comparable with the Grado's i have heard (SR80,225,GS1000
  10. You should definitely have a look at Taperssection.com - Index There are quite a few choices in wiiide price range .. If you want DSD the Korg MR-1 is probably the cheapest you can get Do you want a one box solution with attached mic? I think especially for ambient sound recordings an external mic and low noise preamp would have many benefits! What's the budget? I kinda tried to forget about my own search for such a device when i realized i started lusting for a sounddevices recorder :S Oh i think the name you were looking for might have been gearslutz ? ,) EDIT: The micro Track could be a nice introduction and you have the digital in you can always use with possible later upgrades
  11. If noone has Ultrasones and a screwed adapter definetely ask Hans at Qables, he`s a very nice person and i bet he`d do his best to answer that question
  12. Qables carry a threaded minijack (forProline recables)! You d have to ask them or try for yourself if they fit the AKG threads though. Or someone owning an Ultrasone phone could try for you
  13. I think Bloodwood and Paduak are toxic when you work with em. I'd check with a doctor and consider wearing cloves and mask atleast when you're cutting or sanding them ! yay, your thread finaly made me sign up
