  1. If someone is crying over not being able to get a phone, they obviously need it more than I do. I'll grab it tomorrow. Or day after. Or whenever they have it in stock. Barring the larger screen and the curved design I don't really see any 'upgrades.' Certainly nothing major enough for me to want that phone today badly enough to where I ignore someone crying over it. Had the day off from school. Went with a friend. Hopefully she is happy with whatever she was able to get because they were starting to run out of the 6+'s fast.
  2. Siri is on. Showed it to the apple people this morning while waiting in line. They couldn't figure it out either. Waited in line for 6 hours. I was the second to last person to get a reservation for a plus. The lady behind me started sobbing uncontrollably. Gave her my spot. Then got cursed out by the guy who got the last reservation for making him look like a douche because she was pleading with him for the spot (something about a disabled son). No iPhone but walked away happier than I woke up this morning even after my back killing me from standing that long. Funny story about this morning though. Got up early and got to the mall at 7:30 am to a pretty empty parking lot. Was super excited knowing that I would probably get the first spot in line. Walked into a dead empty mall. Went upstairs and turned the corner to find ~400 people ahead of me. I had parked on the wrong side of the mall. :<
  3. Nope. All permissions are good.
  4. Damnit.
  5. No microphone here...
  6. Anyone know how to bring back the microphone to dictate instead of typing stuff? It seems to have been replaced by the stupid emoticon button that I couldn't care less for.
  7. Apparently if you have ~500 mb free like I did it prompts 4.7gb space needed for install (wish I had taken a picture of it) but if you have more than 1gb free, then it is ok. Stupid but whatever. Will investigate the embedded youtube issue more in a few hours.
  8. Also audio doesn't work in any embedded YouTube video. Wtf?
  9. My short review - it's laggy on iPhone 5. Not sure how people with 4 and 4s will be able to use it. Also, 4.7gb needed to install. Basically had to empty my iPhone to be able to install it.
  10. Sheesh...didn't know that could kill you.
  11. Thank you. I have something similar to the cicadas (in that the speakers have a full range driver not a multi way). A sub has always tickled my fancy. The bass out of the cabinet is great (it uses the room for amplification) but I wonder how it would sound with a dedicated sub...
  12. How do the hsu offerings compare with svs?
  13. Haj, we have a simple release allowing us to make rudimentary edits (color, white balance, straightening etc) and then to print the images. Once that is done we hand over the originals and our edited copies to the families along with the prints. Thanks for thinking about the project though.
  14. How do you get it to be that thick dan? Past few times I tired, it came out very runny.
  15. Ric, the biggest part of this endeavor is personal contact with patients and their families so I'll only be hanging out with one family a day. So no need to more than one camera.
  16. Haj, I googled neck straps and they are inexpensive enough to where I can just buy one myself. Or use the one from my D800 if it fits. I am using a Gordy's wrist strap with it now. But thanks for the handling info on the RX100. I'll take it away from consideration.
  17. I have a strange request of sorts for a camera to be used in a very particular set of conditions. Through my medical school, I am trying to follow along some pediatric patients (think oncology, PICU, general pediatrics etc) and their families and experiencing a day with them. The point of the project is to give young children some cameras (Fujifilm very kindly donated 20 single use film cameras to our club) and try to see the world from their perspective. I believe that even in the face of adversity, children have an uncanny ability to be optimistic where adults might perhaps give up hope. To my surprise, the person in charge of making all this happen at the hospital has said it would be ok for the kids to take pictures in the hospital itself! This was the original intent of the project but after being quoted HIPAA violations at 14 different institutions, I gave up the idea and suggested just giving the film cameras to kids to take home so they could take pictures of whatever they found interesting. We still plan on doing this. However, the kids being allowed to take pictures on hospital grounds comes with the stipulation that the camera they use be digital so that if anyone who doesn't sign a consent form accidentally gets photographed, the image can be deleted on the spot to keep everyone happy. As such, I wonder what camera would best serve this purpose. I personally own a D800 and a Nikon F5 neither of which are light enough to be handled with dexterity by someone admitted to a pediatric wing (I would guess). So is there a camera that fits the following requirements... 1. Light/small enough for a child to hold/operate without any issues. 2. Good enough image quality (the hospital wants to have some of these images printed reasonably large for a big event in March - maybe something like 11x17? I don't know what size for sure but I'll find out next Friday). 3. Ability to shoot in relatively poor lighting conditions. Hospitals are either lit with tube lights or have them turned off for the comfort of patients. Want to make sure that the camera has reasonably decent white balance (if shooting JPEG). 4. A wide lens or some measure of image stabilization. I myself don't have the most stable hands. I certainly wouldn't assume that anyone else does. So just in case... 5. Fast AF. Given my limited interaction with kids operating cameras, they don't seem to want to depress the shutter button half way for the focus to lock and then click to take the picture. 6. The camera is almost exclusively to be used inside the hospital so please disregard use outside. Better light will just be icing on top. 7. This is probably silly to mention but a neck strap, however flimsy, is kind of a must. We can't afford the camera accidentally being dropped. Most cameras probably come with one but just wanted to mention it in case they didn't. Although I don't know how much they cost on their own so if it is an inexpensive item, feel free to ignore this requirement. The club's budget is ~$500 - I doubt #2 would be satisfied for anything less than that amount but please correct me if I am wrong. The budget can be stretched another $50 in a case where there is overwhelming support. From everything I have read so far, the Ricoh GR 'seems' to fit the bill especially with the snap AF mode (although I have only read about it - don't know how well it works in practice or how well it would work in this particular case). One of the variants of the RX100 family comes to mind as well but I have only ever used NEX bodies and don't know how well the RX100 would do in the conditions mentioned above. An x100 perhaps or would the AF be too slow?
  18. Does corner loading matter if no one is there to hear the sound?
  19. anyone with the Geek Out 1000 experience the wifi cutting out issues with macbook airs?

    The Killing

Had no clue it was back on. Guess I'm not sleeping tonight. Really wish the show goes on past this season.
  21. Nikon F5 with Kodak Max 400.
  22. The line out of the motherboard in the desktop is as noisy as anything I have ever heard. It does have an optical out though... Last night I pulled out the bottlehead crack and hd650s and they sounded mighty fine. I loved them with the emotive xda1 and the xda2 is only $219 right now but I don't have the room for it. I haven't kept up with the dac market for the past few years. The PS Audio DL 3 works well with the speakers so I am not inclined to do anything with it but it is already being fed by an Apple TV and only has one optical input. Any suggestions for a dac that has an optical input in a similar budget (if need be I'll try to make room for the xda2 but I'd rather not)? Anything that has a low enough noise floor to work with the jh16s would be awesome as well. Might extend the budget a bit for that if both purposes are being solved. I tried Mike's Pico Slim a long time ago and could hear the hissing sound in the background so use that as your benchmark I guess in terms of noise floor.
  23. Friday - walked 2 miles. Saturday - walked 12 miles. Sunday - walked 8 miles. Monday - walked 8 miles. I laughed when the cab driver who took us to the hotel said that New Orleans has something about it that gets in your blood and gets you addicted. You keep coming back for more. I see it to be true now. Still have another half a day left tomorrow but just an amazing time so far. Julie and I were long overdue a vacation. with med school starting we didn't have much couple time so this was a much needed getaway from reality.
  24. Had the catfish meunière a few hours ago. I refuse to rinse my mouth. Probably one of the best meals I've ever had. The gravy was licked off the plate. Just fantastic stuff.
