Tell me about your Home Theater Setup
I'm not sure I can see a way to do this that doesn't strike me as just wasting $$ unless you're willing to shop used. All of the prepackaged systems I've heard have left me seriously wanting. And for HT I'm just not that picky either...

Recommend a work laptop
Other than the sweet hookup that Dan almost assuredly just offered I would recommend having a look at Sager Notebooks. Oh and if Dan just hooked you up as I suspect he did you should shop quickly, the last email I got from them had some scary good deals in it.

Good plan.- A Treatise on the TTVJ/307A
Ok, how about my tractor costs as much as some cars, does that make it anything other than an expensive tractor? No, it does what it was designed to do exceptionally well and I don't expect it to be a car. While headphones require less power they are also FAR less forgiving of noise. It also requires an entirely different design to deal with the varying impedance/load that headphones can present to the amplifier. Look, if you think the 307A is expensive that's a fine and justifiable position to take. But to back that statement up with is completely in appropriate. You're using power as the basis of your comparison. You should have stopped with "my bad".- A Treatise on the TTVJ/307A
Comparing the cost of a speaker amp to a headphone amp is worthless. Is the 307A expensive? Yes, but you're paying for a hand built, limited production item much in the same way that you would expect to pay more for a Bugatti than you would for a VW.- A Treatise on the TTVJ/307A
Explain this comment please. Are you complaining about the price of the 307A or something else?- Post the last thing you bought!

Opeth - Damnation- Dell Inspiron Mini 9 as a Transport
Hmmm, I still think I might rather have a squeezebox and have a good remote option. Granted, you can do a lot more with the mini-lappy but if a transport is what you're after the SB3 or Duet still strikes me as a better solution.- Blue Hawaii Special Edition
Fixed bias, by definition is not adjustable. The BHSE is an adjustable bias amplifier. There are lots of amps that are described as auto bias when in fact they are just a simple, fixed bias circuit. I believe this is an attempt on the manufacturer's part to mislead the consumer into thinking that something more complex is going on. I believe that anyone who describes an amp like that would be mixing their terms.- Blue Hawaii Special Edition
It is user-biasable IIRC, not fixed or auto. There are access holes in the top panel that allow access to trimpots for re-biasing after tube replacement.- Koss ESP/950 electrostat thread
I don't think that it is at all reasonable for them to expect that on a product with a lifetime warranty that owners would keep everything. I'd call them back and tell them that they are insane and to just replace the headphones. jpnums just went through a similar situation and I don't think he sent them any more than just the headphones.- Transferring Music from Mac OS External Drive to NTFS Formatted Drive
Mike, I'm sure there's a way. The simplest path to me would seem to be to reformat the office drive (presumably currently not in use) as a FAT32 volume that could easily be seen by the MAC. You could then transfer the files to that external drive (if it's big enough) and simply give the drive to your friend or use it to transfer files to his drive.- What are you listening to Part Two
