  1. is the new wheatfield out already?

I don't think so, I'm supposed to get a little alone time with the prototype whenever it's ready this fall. I know that Pete's been a busy guy (with some seriously cool projects) so I don't know how much time he's invested into the new HA-2 or how hard Tyll is pushing him to get it done.
  2. Thanks for you impressions, I'd just have to add that I've never been a fan of the HF-1s with flats, they sound fat and bloated to me that way. I much prefer them with bowls. While I've never heard the MS2i I have heard the 325 and 325i and preferred both of those cans with flats or reverse bowls. Did you try the HF-1s with anything other than the flats?

  3. Except that grading shouldn't be done on a curve. Either you learn the material or you don't. Curves are why colleges turn out morons.

That's not an entirely fair or accurate statement. Most of the best teachers that I know freely admit that sometimes they just make tests too hard and that the numeric score generated does not reflect the overall capability of the class. In some cases getting 70% of the answers correct might very well show a complete understanding of the material presented.

    On topic: water

  4. No spoilers please, I've this whole show (3 seasons) cued up and ready to go soon. Now that I've got it so that I can watch downloaded content in high-def in the living room I imagine I'll get to this and a few other shows that I didn't want to watch on the computer.

  5. I watched the fucking movie, which should be at least an above average representation of the show, right?

I'd say it was average at best, but if it didn't do it for you I wouldn't encourage watching the show. I certainly didn't think it was as bad as you clearly did, but hey, such is life.
  6. I'll say I've only seen serenity, but the writing and acting were so awful that there's no way I'd consider watching the show.

I wouldn't say that Serenity was all that good a representation of what Firefly was like. Similar, yes, the same, absolutely not. Some of the stuff that happened in Serenity probably made no sense to those that hadn't watched Firefly and I can see how you just wouldn't get all that involved in the characters w/ such a short introduction to them.
  7. I've been hearing this a lot lately. What is so great about it? I'd probably say that Firefly, Dead Like Me and Heroes are my current favourites as far as series' go... would I like Deadwood?

    Great Shows

    Firefly, check.

    Dead Like Me, check.

Heroes, uh, not sure whether or not this is a great show yet. They ended the first season terribly, I watched part of last night's episode before succumbing to exhaustion but it was going ok. I'm giving them about 4 or 5 episodes to show me that they have something resembling a direction otherwise they'll probably lose me.

Deadwood is fantastic and just so unlike anything else I've ever watched. It had a way of making me profoundly uncomfortable (was life ever that violent?) and got me to laugh out loud all in the same hour. Watch the first 5 episodes, if it doesn't click with you by then it probably won't.

  8. i'm confused as to why you bought it...

Uh, well, considering the price (which shall go unnamed) it was impossible to pass up. The whole situation started out that I was going to try and repair it for Ken but he decided that he just wanted to move on from it and get something that he knew he could depend on. People were giving him a ration of shit about the way in which he was selling it (I don't know all the details of this) so I helped in the only way I could and bought it.

I'm also having thoughts of building a single box comp-as-source solution and housing the Hertsens w/ the SB3 in which case having a balanced Redbook source would be very handy.

  9. I debated whether or not to post this at all, it's bound to not sit well with certain folks who also tried to purchase it. I don't really know why I was chosen... But anyway, here's my most recent addition to my work rig (not really), ken36's Wadia 830. Still it sounds wonderful through the mini3.

Pardon the crappy picture, our work cameras are dreadful.

    large.jpg

It probably needs a new remote (wicked flakey) and has an issue with the digital inputs (confirmed this morning) and since those parts aren't available from Wadia anymore I'm not hopeful that it can be repaired and it also doesn't have the digital output board so it can't serve as a dedicated transport which is what I was really hoping to use it for. Even with all that I'm sure that I can find a place for it at home.

  10. Here's my 2c.

1)i probably need to build the low impedance aikido (i thought i red somewhere the high is better although you have a low impedance headphone : is this correct)

I'd shoot for as low an output impedance as you can. I'm still trying to find output caps for my build.

2)the ouput cap should be 470uf, so scheme on the internet pop up with 47uf.

I'm not sure what you're asking here, perhaps you could link to the particluar schematic?

4)for resistors i would use holco/kiwame cause the dollar euro ratio is so low, and in absolute costs it is not that much

Sounds good, I went with all Kiwames.

5)i would use jj caps in the power supply

Again, that sounds fine to me but really depends on if they work in whatever power supply you're thinking of using.

6)how much difference is there on a tube or ss psu ? i have an old trannie of a el84pp, i could use it maybe.

Hard to say and really depends on what designs you're comparing. Most hard-core folks that I know favor tube-rectified designs as they allow for a gradual rise in B+. With solid state the minute you turn it on you're throwing full everything at a cold tube. If you're up for some learning track down Duncan's Power Supply Designer. That's what my friend used to design my Aikido PS.

7)if the cost price is not that much more, i dare to go for balanced, have to mod the new headphone, but that is not scary ;)
I suggest single ended first. If you hate the sound it'd be a shame to have that much tied up in the amp.
