Nah, no Sony for me again for a while, ask Haj about the saga of the sony. It'd be safe to say that if I ever hold a meet we might get to go Office Space on a Sony DVD player. I wasn't going to mention what my player was for fear of derailng the thread again and incurring the wrath of Yikes!Sorry
Which player?
If you plan on modding it's probably a Sony?
But since you asked... I picked up Arch's used NAD C541i and I'm going to run it through some of the mods that Voodoochile did to his. I know he was pretty happy with it and only upgraded when Haj sold him his Electroinsanity.
Yes, just as you go vinyl I might have a semi-respectable digital source again.Wait, you're finally going to have a digital source again, too? Damn, what is this world coming to?
-
Nice! My new-to-me, soon-to-be-modded player should be here tomorrow!

Again, I would just say it is completely dependent on the law you choose to break.not necessarily. in fact, you would be acting in a time honored tradition.
Well, based on that paragraph I'd guess you and I are pretty similar, we just happen to be at odds on this issue. Enough serious talk for one day.I'm pragmatic. I obey laws that I agree with, or I agree that I will deal with the consequences of my actions when I disobey laws. Some laws I disobey because I disagree with their validity, and some I disobey because I don't feel like obeying them. Regardless, if put in a position where I suffer consequences from my actions, I don't whine about it, I either fihgt it in court or I accept my punishment. Thus far in my life, that has worked out reasonably well for me.

I'm not perfect, far from it
No I don't, I'm generally a "5-over" speeder. If I'm just cruising and the road is clear I'll often ride close the speed limit but given today's traffic habits I find it to be more dangerous going the speed limit that to be going the speed of traffic, especially on a bike.
As with everything there is a degree of grey area that most people would consider reasonable, in this case I don't see that operating a vehicle without the proper license is in my personal grey area.
-
Sure, you don't have to agree with all of the laws but wouldn't you still be bound to obey the laws and take the prescribed action set forth to try and get them changed? Once you start picking and choosing which laws to self-enforce you're sort of circumventing the whole point of having laws, aren't you?i consider that a bit of a false dichotomoy. one can believe in the rule of law without agreeing with or endorsing all laws.
-
I don't think it makes you an asshole but in my head it goes like this: you either believe in the rule of law or you do not. It is law that in order to operate a motorcycle you must carry the proper endorsement. If you want the benefits that our laws afford you then you should be willing to abide those that inconvenience you. I'm not perfect, far from it, and I'm sure I don't abide 100% by the laws of the land but I try to deal with simple shit like this.wtf about riding without a motorcycle endorsement makes me an asshole? Who does THAT impact but me?
-
True, but if some chucklehead can't even do that do you really want them out on the road pointing a 185mph missile at your car/truck/whatever?That has nothing to do with the motorcycle skills test, which takes place at 10mph in a parking lot. That test says NOTHING about real world riding. Can you weave in and out of cones, can you turn around, can you stop.
I don't really say any of this in the interest of protecting others, I'm guarding my own ass here. If all accidents only involved the dipshit that caused them I probably wouldn't care, it's the collateral damage that pisses me off the most.

If you honestly believe that your insurance company treats you as an individual rather than anything other than a set of parameters nothing I say to you is going to convince you otherwise. But trust me, you are a series of checkboxes and multiple choice questions nothing else.If your insurance is higher because I sometimes choose not to wear a helmet, you need to have a discussion with your insurance company. My rates are pretty reasonable, mostly because I have a clean driving record, and have established myself as a good risk over the years.
Well, I think here we'll just have to agree to disagree. I agree that boots, proper jacket, pants, gloves and eye protection are imporant but as to the likelihod that a helmet will make a crash worse you have to ask yourself, would you rather have a neck injury or brain trauma? As a long time rider, I'd say that more important than a helmet are boots, jacket, pants, gloves, and good eye protection. Helmets <snip> increase the likelihood of neck injuries in an accident. -
No offense, but that's a pretty close-minded view on the scenario. If insurance companies would offer incentives for wearing a helmet or have a right to deny coverage for riders that chose not to wear one I'd be right with you. But the fact is that riders who chose to operate a motorcycle without even the most basic safety equipment affect everyone. When your minor accident with a helmet becomes a major one without it that has a ripple effect, whether you want to admit it or not. I'm not trying in infringe on your rights, I just have no interest in paying for your privilege through my insurance premiums.I sometimes ride without a helmet. I usually wear one. I sometimes ride without boots on, I sometimes ride without a jacket. Thing is, I'm the only one affected by these decisions (well, and my family). It's not your business what I choose to do.

Not sure if you're serious but really, it's no different than requiring driver's ed for anyone who wants to drive a car. Motorcycle does not equal car, therefore more training required. It takes one weekend to complete the BRC through MSF. I'm not trying to limit who can or can't get a license but allowing little timmy to get a permit and then pilot the world's fastest road going two-wheeled vehicle with no training is a little crazy, doncha think?that's a slippery slope.
I'm waiting for a law suit against a mcycle manufacturer for selling a bike to someone that couldn't handle it...
-
Special license, not really, but you are required to have a "motorcycle endorsement" on your normal license. As far as I know every state in the union requires that you take at least a skills test before you can get your motorcycle endorsement. Most require both a written and riding test before getting your permanent endorsement. Unfortunately this really provides inadequate education about how to properly operate a motorcycle, I'm of the opinoin that an MSF course should be mandated. It'd make my insurance rates go down, that's for sure. Nothing like a 50 year old who's never ridden before getting his permit, a 700# harley and killing himself to drive up premiums, unless you want to talk about 16 year olds on 180mph rockets like the 'busa...in ohio you don't need a special license to ride motorcycles, IIRC, though the state does offer classes. is penn different?
-
And now we find out that it's likely he didn't even have an MC license...
Stupid is as stupid does.
Hey Yikes, what do you think of the 'busa as a "beginners bike"...

No worries about that from me, my wallet can't afford the phone call, not to mention the amp!I believe that at this point it would be premature to contact him about this project.

F'you pal, that's my motto and I'm sticking to itBTW, you guys should make 'you're a whiney bitch' the new headcase motto since that seems to be a repeating theme around here.

Dem's fightin' words commin' from a man wantin' a pair o' my headphones...Great... A new source for media you have almost none of, yet still no source for what you have the most of?
-
Thanks Haj, I hope so too. Mark and I still get a chuckle out of the Sony from time to time so at least we can laugh about it. It's officially in Mark's possesion, I told him if he can fix it he can keep it, I hope that's ok. With any luck I'll be hearing about a new digital source/transport in a few days, then it'll be a matter of deciding whether or not I keep Monica around.BTW, Nate, I sincerely hope you'll have better luck with this than you have had with the digital side of the things recently.

Thanks for all the advice, as for the Scout I'm not saying it won't happen but I'll be shocked if I push it anymore than I already have. My home headphone rig in general needs some serious attention in terms of brining it all together. I'm nearly there on the digital-source side, but the amplification is coming together more slowly than I'd like. So, in the end, I think it'll be a matter of too many projects too little time to do much upgrading in the near future. I have found a DIY record cleaner that I'm looking into...Nate, congrats on catching the bug.
And 909,
No worries man, we cool

Hey, you're the global mod and the only one who can edit my now-more-than-5-minute old post
.
As an aside I think it'll be a fun test of the Headcase monitoring network to see how quickly they react to the link.
-
I find it hilarious that while all the chasing down of bunnies and such occurs at Head-Fi that sigs like [link removed to protect the innocent], which clearly direct traffic to another headphone related site go unnoticed, uncared about or just ignored. At least I know where the rickeraptormonsterwhatever hangs out since he was banned.
And welcome to the Head-Fi moderation team, this should be a fun little discussion group.

Note: I put theWho the fuck cares? Well, I could think of at least one person...
to symbolize that I was completely cool with the hijack so if you're trying to indicate that I care you are mistaken

Yeah, I'm hold no illusions about going completely vinyl or anything like that. The opportunity was too much to pass up though, plus it gives me an excuse to build a phono stage. Yay, more projects (I need more of those like I need another whole in the head). My TT is rotting on top of a shelf right now - I have to admit, computer-as-source is way too easy to have to reach for vinyl as an alternative. but for looks, you gotta have a platter on top of your tower!
And this is what my Marantz TT looks like:
-
Hehehe, if I wanted a boring thread discussing the various plusses and minuses of the TT I'd have started it over there! This is the wild west (this is a thread hijacked) sorry if you (or your thin skin) took unkindly to our improvisation.
