Help Putting Together a Fanless PC
manaox2 replied to dsavitsk's topic in GoRedwings19's Computer Help Hotline
Reviving this thread as I want a media pc to take over serving 1080p MKV with styled soft subs and VC-1 files uncompressed with FLAC audio and 5.1 channels on the cheap. Usual rules apply, silent and cheap as possible to get the job done and be reasonably upgradeable. My ideas so far: Out of stock on newegg but available other places: Newegg.com - ASUS AT3IONT-I Intel Atom 330 PBGA437 NVIDIA ION Mini ITX Motherboard/CPU Combo Newegg.com - APEX MI-008 Black Steel Mini-ITX Tower Computer Case 250W Power Supply Newegg.com - Kingston 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1066 (PC3 8500) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory Model KVR1066D3N7K2/4G Newegg.com - OCZ Vertex 2 OCZSSD2-2VTXE60G 2.5" 60GB SATA II MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) Newegg.com - Scythe S-FLEX SFF21E 120mm Case Fan Total comes out to be roughly $400 for something that hasn't changed a lot in a year. Decided not to try to go with ION 2 because of it has some well documented issues the ION does not. It would be even nicer to find a netbook PC that could do the same and still be used on the go, sadly not much luck there. Ideas on this build? I already have Win7 64 professional, a lenova multimedia remote with trackball/keyboard and an external drive with 2TB with an extra bay open for another 2TB in the future. I may add an LG Black BD-Rom drive in the future as I really enjoy the one I have in my main PC right now. -
Best of luck Mike!

Do Transports Matter--or are bitses bitses?

Darn steve, happy belated and hope the holidays have treated you well.

They weren't good enough for me at $250 or at $99 last times I bought them. So... yeah, all universal IEMs suck.

Got snowed in at home, power went out this morning and should be back on by midnight. Built a fire, shoveled the drive, picked up supplies aka fire logs and beer. We still have our laptops charged with extras batteries and 3g service. I reckon we will make out well with all the christmas leftovers before they get too warm.

Very much may be bullshit, but you sound fucking insane. Lately, just a tad off.

I believe this went viral about a year ago. It wasn't real, but it got a lot of attention.

Merry birthday happy mas to you!

Merry Christmas and wish you all lots more merriment in the new year.

Only tweaks I put any stock into was using kernal streaming or wasapi, setting low latency (about 400 if your pc can manage it) and page file buffering. Any read write function whether hard drive, SSD, or ram creates noise in the ground channel of my pc, don't know how that can affect the transport of digital bits exactly. I can easily hear it if I connect speakers to the onboard sound card.

Happy birthday Ken! Hope its a great one!

What is your current dac you compared if you don't mind my asking? Tapatalk

Tapatalk just got an update for the newest version of the vb plugin with some new features that might require updating. Tapatalk

I'm not surprised. Droid x media center audio playback sounds plain bad. The low fi stream from pandora sounds more acceptable even. Tapatalk

Yep, if your market was updated which it probably is now if its connected to data. Makes me wish I had put a freeze of the silent market update service on my X. However... I do have a backup on Titanium and a nice SBF file that'll work containing the old market on it should I need it. Evidentally, piracy is already huge on android since all you need is the small apk file to share. I believe Google was concerned people would pay for a game or tool, get all they needed out of it in 24 hours and return it.

I thought it wasn't as good as previous seasons and could be missed completely in terms of it adding much to the series overall evolution of Dexter, but it was worth watching. I was mostly using it to get pumped for watching Boardwalk Empire and The Walking Dead (MAN did that one go down quick for a six show season. The finale of that now was a real disappointment).

Non-pure android could be awesome with a power boost. The blur skin Motorola used on the Droid X is not smooth by default, but turn on some overclocking and keep the cache reasonable and its butter. Some of the features of Blur I would prefer to stock, I would just prefer it to be an option instead of a requirement. If somehow this thing ends up with an unlocked bootloader and Tegra 2 dual core processor, even I might be interested now that I don't have my laptop OTG. Those that said my Droid X couldn't replace a laptop on the computer for a weekend trip were wrong IMO, it was almost too enticing to play on it during any down time. I think the Moto tablet will be awesome. The iPad is pretty sweet and priced competitively, but this could undercut it in price and be more attractive in features for those that aren't totally apple devoted. Ok, time to stop crapping the apple tablet thread, need to go back to the android thread now.
