It looks like I will have a Galibier Serac by the end of next week. Thom had a demo available that he doesn't need at the moment. He is adding a new motor and controller which will get 72 hours of burn in time this weekend. If he ships Monday, a Friday arrival is possible.

MacHeads- Impending MacBook Purchase
Mr. Maher is correct. In the office I run Vista for my case management software. When I am out of the office I boot in OSX. With the wireless adapter disabled and the mac connected by ethernet, no problems with skipping. Problem solved. I am pretty impressed with the macs ability to run Vista.

MacHeads- Impending MacBook Purchase
The problem with the sound in Vista on the new MacBook is caused by a conflict with the driver for the wireless adapter. The problem was eliminated when I disabled the wireless adapter and connected to my network via ethernet. Hopefully, there will be a fix in the near future although as long as I can connect with ethernet, it won't be a problem for me.

MacHeads- Impending MacBook Purchase
Everything is up and running. I have Vista installed with a 32 gb partition. All my office software is running. Now the problem. When I play music ether through internet or itunes using my go-vibe dac is garbled as if slowing down every minute or two. This didn't happen with my other computer using the same dac. Any ideas?

I still have to get used to the mac track pad since I'm used to a windows comp and having the ability to tap. So far, I like it. Especially two finger scrolling.

I like the MBA but now that I have the MB, I'm not sure, I would need anything more or less in the case of the MBA. I have no use for a bigger screen than 13". I kind of wish they brought back a MB in the form of the 12" PB. I was disappointed that the MB didn't come with the video adapter. Now I have to make another trip to the Apple Store before I can connect to my office monitor. I need another bluetooth mouse anyway so not a big deal.

I didn't have to rub it or anything.

I just started playing around with it. So far I like it. I really like the feel of the keyboard. It's the stiffest notebook I've owned. When I pick it while open by the corner, there is no flex. David, congrats on the HD2. Al, congrats on the speaker cables. My rig at home and office are outfitted with Nate IC/speaker cable. The power cords are courtesy of GE Audio. Both these guys make top notch cables.

I'm going to check them out at the Apple Store tomorrow night and make a decision. If I can get it with black gates, I think that's a no brainer.

The question for me is do I need the 2.4 or should I save my firm the extra $200. Any thoughts on whether go with the base 2.4 or a 2.0 with extra ram and larger hard drive.

Apogee Duet Kicks Ass
I would have liked the option to go with a duet in the office but if I get the macbook, it's no longer an option. On the other hand, I would be very happy with a dac only Pico for my office rig.

I remember that room. It felt like it was 90 degrees in there from those amps. Those speakers retail for $45,000.

That is exactly what I am thinking at the moment. I hate to go without vinyl for all that time but I may just list my tt on Audiogon to see what I can get. I might pick up a Rega P1 used to have for the duration of the wait.

I noticed the computers as well, along with the wadia/ipod combo. The Gavia is a beauty. I really have my heart set on the Serac. The nice thing with Galibier is that there is a clear upgrade path to the higher end gear and he makes it very easy for you to do. You can start out at the bottom and easily move your way up without losing anything on the old gear. Right now I am just trying to figure out the timing. I could sell my Hyperspace now (assuming anyone has any money to buy any gear at the moment) and use that for the down payment. The build time is 6-10 weeks which should work out for me for the balance.
