The amp that was just returned and died again. I'm sending both monos back. He's going to build a new amp for me to replace the one that went bad and upgrade the other. I hope to have a replacement while they are gone so I can continue to evaluate the Pico. Having heard the SRD-7 mkii now for a few hours, I hope the KGSS DX is as good.

I have my speaker rig up and running. The Duet's output is higher than the Pico so using a sound level meter I and a Cardas Burn In Sweep I was able to volume match by lower the output of the Duet. I've spent about the last hours listening to about 4 or 5 tunes over and over again. They include Alison Krauss Let Me Touch You For A While, Lucky One. Miles Davis So What. Albert King/SRV Call It Stormy Monday, Pride and Joy. My preliminary conclusion is that those of us that own Duets are going to have a tough time deciding whether one is better than the other. I haven't picked out any real differences between the two but it's only been an hour. I would find it difficult to believe that anyone that owns a Duet would walk away from a comparison saying the Duet is the better dac. They both do everything so well, especially keeping my toes tapping. I have more listening to do and maybe my opinion will change over time as I get used to the Pico but for now, my hats off to Justin.

Here is the Pico in my temporary stat rig: I'm still unable to compare to the Duet in this setup but the Pico is definitely not disappointing. I wish I had a decent cdp here to compare it to. I guess that will have to wait for the Tampa Meet.

I should be up and running with at least my speaker rig tomorrow so I will try to get some more impressions in the next couple of days.

I wasn't trying to say it was the exact situation only that there is so much animosity towards RSA that it's not shocking that Jude might conclude that RSA is the reason. Also, if I did what you suggest I don't believe there would be the same outrage.

I'm not saying it didn't happen but I am not aware of anyone being criticized for reporting posts. There are some members that report posts regularly and are a huge help because we can't read everyone. When I see people I know report posts, like Nate, I tend to jump on them faster because they usually are reporting something that needs to be addressed. If you don't report something then don't complain and don't assume you know the reason why a problem isn't being addressed. I've been mostly out of pocket the past 3 or 4 days but will check out the posts. And to my ears the previous HE Audio headphones were better than the OII.

I have no idea whether it's a hoax. I also have no idea if the OP has any idea on the authenticity of the pics. Assuming it is the amp (I don't doubt it is by the way), we don't know if this is the amp being sold now or a prototype. I have no idea with internal pics being posted as long as we have some verification that it is a pic of what it is represented to be.

Nothing wrong with the Duet and it's too early to declare a winner between the Pico and Duet.

I have no problem with pictures of internals being posted but since this does not appear to of an amp owned by minivan, how do we know if this is internals of the amp Rudi sells? I have no idea but throw out the question. The post with the pics on HF is back but the links are broken for some reason. Without knowing more about where these pics come from, I am a bit uncomfortable with them being posted on HF.

This is pretty much the first time I've had a chance to spend any quality time with the Pico DAC prototype that Justin was kind enough to send me since I've been out of town all weekend. My system in transition at the moment so I only have the Duet as my headphone amp and won't have me monoblock back for my speaker rig until Wednesday. At the moment I'm using the mini out of the Pico for my 650's with the Pico connected usb to my Mac Mini. I'm using the volume control of itunes to control the Pico. I realize this isn't the optimum set up but it's the best I can do until later in the week when my speaker rig is back in action. I have to say that Pico sounds great. I switch between it and the Duet, switching between the two dacs in system preferences and the Pico is every bit as good as the Duet and perhaps a bit better in detail retrieval. This is just preliminary and I will do a lot more listening but I am pretty impressed with the sq so far. Especially considering that it's using the volume control of the Mac Mini without an external amplifier. That is it for the moment.

I'll post a pic when mine arrives. I'm going to use it with my new Pico DAC.

It is kind of sad but will work out in the end. I will use the new Beta in here until I can eventually replace it with either an Arcam Solo Mini or more likely a Headroom amp. I feel like I should support Headroom since I have the stands, thanks to Tyll. That way the new Nugget Audio Beta will be back home where it belongs.
