I've always said the Hd800 were like a "dynamic HE-60", but that I still preferred the HE-60. But the HD800 via Luxman P-1u or EC ZDT are pretty darn good, and my favorite dynamic.

Scrolling with the trackpad is very fast and smooth in things like Safari and Word, a bit faster than holding the down key for long periods. I'm not seeing any hiccoughs while downloading three iTunes movies and deleting a 70gb iPhoto library from my NAS at the same time as scrolling. I'm basing "Future Proof" on the fact that older Mac computers with gobs of RAM at the time They were released often have too little RAM after just 3-4 years of OS X upgrades. Our "late 2006" 15" MacBook Pro and iMac came with 1GB RAM but were limited to 3GB max. 3GB was barely enough for Lion, and almost unusable with two users logged in at the same time and running background tasks like music servers and such. With Snow Leopard we could run multiple apps under multiple users with 3GB, ripping DVD's in the background and running iTunes and Twonky server in the background. With Lion forget it. What will it be like with OS X 10.10 Honey Badger? Apple seems to think that some older Macs should be retired a bit sooner than many of us think they should, so they build an OS that excludes many older Macs, based either by not supporting certain old hardware components or having an OS that wont work within the Mac's RAM limits. Some people bought Macs only 4 years ago and can't use them with ML now. We had 4 Macs that can't accept ML now.. Our late 2007 MacBooks were just fine with Snow Leopard, which we bought in 2008, and 2GB was plenty with SL, and once there was enough RAM they ran great with Lion. Yet these Macs are not supported with Mountain Lion now due to older video cards, despite 64 bit CPU processors. Planned obsolescence in action. They could run fine for years with 6Gb if we stuck with an older OS, but apple has made it such that if we want to take advantage of the new OS we have to upgrade the hardware before it's time. True, there is no way to "future proof" against something like this, but increasing RAM demands by apps and OS will continue for the foreseeable future. What kind of demands will future operating systems demand on the hardware? If 4-8 GB is just enough now (ESP if using apps like Amarra), imagine how much we'll need in just a few years. I figure in 3-4 years the 8GB will barely cut it, and you won't be able to upgrade the RAM so performance will suffer. If you plan to replace your Mac every 3 years when AppleCare runs out then it's probably a non-issue, but we tend to keep our Macs for 4-5 years. -

Thanks for the info. I re-applied for the codes and got them right away. -
When I last used print n share i thought it still required a computer to be turned on. I see that's changed. It see's my wireless HP printer, in addition to the printers attached to my iMac. That's nice to know.

I filled out the online forms Wednesday to get our free ML download for the 3 MacBook pros that we bought after 6/11, and haven't gotten the codes via email to download yet. Anyone know how long it should have taken? -

Try apple store for air-print compatible printers - no Mac with Printopia needed, for as little as $99 for an Epson. http://store.apple.com/us/browse/home/shop_ipad/ipad_accessories/printers

This rMbP is definitely pretty speedy, and the screen is much easier for me to read. So I don't need to use reading glasses for now, which makes me very happy. I special ordered the 16/768 version, to be more future proof. The 23 day way was worth it. -

My rMBP arrived today, but I was out of town and I missed picking it up from my UPS Store box before they closed by 15 minutes. Sad... We still need iMacs to update so my wife can get one. -
I seem to recall someone telling me that water vapor can condense in gas pipes. True?

Interesting article about using hijacked Macs at Apple store for art project. http://www.wired.com/threatlevel/2012/07/people-staring-at-computers/all/ -
Our cat is on the special KD cat food too, with the same symptoms - cant concentrate their urine. Our cat's blood urea nitrogen was normal but the creatinine level was a little high.

It would be nice if Homeowner's insurance would cover something like this.

My rMBP might be here next week. Ordered it back on 7/1/12, so we'll see. -
Took a bike ride with my son and daughter, grabbed a bite to eat, and can barely move now. If I hadn't lost 50 lbs already I'd be dead instead.

8GB was the wise choice. I'm finding 4GB is barely enough for OS X Lion when running a bunch of background tasks. A Future Mac OS could make the 8GB the minimum not too far in the future. At least if the 256GB SSD isn't big enough she can add a 64GB SD card or Ext HD to increase it. I'm currently using my daughter's old 13" white Macbook since I handed my 15" 8GB MBP down to my son when I bought (and returned) a new 2012 15" MBP. It's much better with the 6GB max now. -

Sorry to hear that. I keep a bootable external drive for circumstances like that (a hybrid SSD clone actually, which runs decent speed), and I also have a 16GB USB thumbdrive set up with OSX that I can boot from as well (very slow). You may want to consider that for the future, although if you can't boot from either internal drive maybe your internal SATA is dead and the motherboard is toast. Try resetting the PRAM and SMC on the machine and see if that helps. First try booting with CMD-OPT-P-R till it starts to boot>chimes>starts to boot again and keep holding the keys until it runs through that again (more fail safe than going through a single cycle). The SMC is reset by removing the battery and power, and then pressing and holding the power button for 5 seconds. Not sure what to do with models with internal batteries. I like upgradability. I just upgraded the early 2009 White Macbook to 6GB a few minutes ago, as iCleanMemory was showing we were using 100% of the 4GB (I'm it won't take 8GB, but my older late 2008 MBP does). It was so simple and fast, and Apple is screwing things up with this soldered in RAM crap. -
Have you heard this Smyth Research Realiser?
