I have to google that myself, but I thought that if the check box for 32 bit mode was missing then it's only a 32 bit app. -
Fixed and adjusted some broken sprinkler heads. Not watering the trampoline or deck anymore. Happy.

True. But it's similar to one of these that looks like it might just have papers in it:

Yeah, it's been so long since I pulled them out to wear that it could have been anyone, including guests at a couple of parties. But I thought the ring was in a can with false bottom, and the two strands of pearls are still there. So, that made me think I must have put the ring with the watch. The watch for sure was in a small portable firesafe, but only my wife and three teenage kids knew there was anything worth stealing in that. It was sitting on top of two larger fire safes made for 8x11 papers, and was the only one light enough to steal, while the larger ones weigh like 40 lb each. None of the kids has (or had) an abundance of money or new toys that we haven't paid for - they get a good chunk of money from my social security disability and don't need to steal.

Dropped my daughter off at the airport for her trip to Germany for 3 weeks. I'm not worried about volcanoes interrupting the trip as much as the new E. Coli outbreak over there. I need a better pill to help me stop worrying so much... The wife and son are out rafting with the boy scouts, so I get to spend some quality time with the middle daughter this afternoon.

FML. The other day I went to fetch my college class ring to show my daughter, who was selecting her high school class ring, to show how it would look with a nice diamond in it. But it's not in it's usual hiding place (a can with hidden compartment) and I've torn the house apart looking for it. In the process I went to see if it was moved to the small fire safe in the garage where I keep my grandfather's Rolex, and the box is gone too. I think there was a video from our wedding in there too, now gone. It looks like someone went behind the lawn mower and lawn tools in the garage to find it, and I wasn't paying attention for a while so I have no idea when it disappeared. That seemed like the spot that would get the least hot in a fire, so it would have a better chance of surviving. The Rolex is really the only jewelry I care about, so I'm pretty upset. I won't mind having a replacement class ring (the old one was worn smooth and was too small after I gained weight), but the watch was handed down to me 25 years ago when my grandfather died and has sentimental value. On top of that, the insurance company no longer has any of the jewelry scheduled, so I have a $300 deductible to pay with a $5000 limit. Fortunately we don't have that much jewelry. Unfortunately our twice a month housekeeper was fired by the neighbors last year for taking food that wasn't given to her, but in 10 years she's never stolen from us and I really don't want to consider her a suspect. We've done a lot for her and her family over the years, and I don't think that she'd bite the hand that helps feed her. So, in this area I'm not sure what to do. (as for the daughter, she impressed us by still picking the cheapest class ring, even though we agreed to pay for it as a reward for a 4.5 GPA in her junior year)

I have the case too, and am happy with it. I just wish it hadn't taken over 3 weeks to arrive, as I dented my iPad2 the very day before it arrived.

Took my son out to practice golf for a couple of hours, then decided to buy him new golf clubs because he's outgrown his youth set and needs a "teen" sized set. Fortunately he'd saved enough money to pay for it - between hoarding unspent lunch money, lawn cutting money, and the $50 he made for 5 A's on his report card. He was glad that he got to try them out first at Sports Authority before buying them. Meanwhile I'm still stuck using his mother's clubs, because I can hardly swing a club anymore (chronic tendonitis) and gave my clubs away to my best friend 10 years ago. All in all we had a lot of fun, and I got to take a few swings as well.

Is there even such a thing as a "small integrated 300B amp"?
-
Good question. My Seagate GoFlex drives (750Gb and 1.5Tb) only support USB 3.0 and FW800, but not Thunderbolt. And it doesn't look like anyone makes a Thunderbolt adapter for expresscard yet. Even then, the expresscard slot is not fast enough to reach thunderbolt speeds. The FW800 interface is fast, but I thought it would be nice to get even higher speed out of them with USB 3.0. And the $83 USB 3.0 card was cheaper than selling my Macbook Pro for a new one and then trying to find Thunderbolt drives.

If it's not too late I'd like to add that I did have good results with drive #3 (Seagate 2.5" 500Gb 7200 rpm) in my late 2008 unibody 15" Macbook Pro. When my iMac 250Gb drive wasn't big enough I moved the drive to the iMac, and it's still working great after a year. In it's place I put a 640Gb 5400 Western Digital in the Macbook Pro to let me carry more music and movies with me. The WD drive was much slower than the Seagate 7200 rpm, and I recently switched to a Seagate Momentus XT 500Gb hybrid. The Momentus XT hybrid is really fast, and I still have enough room for a 200Gb iTunes library, although I have my complete 1.1 Tb library on an external drive now. I haven't noticed a big drop in battery life either. Also, if you are worried about excessive sleep/wake cycles from a laptop drive that goes to sleep too often, you can find the HDAPM software to modify the settings. I can email you a .zip copy of that software and some articles I found discussing it if you PM me.

Has anyone been able to stretch the headband out so that it doesn't clamp your head like a vise, without breaking anything on the headband? It always just springs back to it's original shape for me. Since I got the DACmini I've really been enjoying the sound, but after 9 months I still get a headache wearing them.

Caldigit USB 3.0 expresscard for my 15" Macbook Pro. Should be able to try it this weekend with a couple of Seagate external drives, after I download the latest drivers.

I agree about the variation in sound between different K1000, and also the big difference with various amps as well. I've heard a few sets, and Namaanf brought a pair of K1000 to my house that sounded magnificent. With his B22 they were slightly more enjoyable than his O2 Mk1 on the Blue Hawaii. After hearing his K1000 I immediately traded for a pair of K1000 for myself. I also ended up with Namaanf's O2 Mk1 (which went to Blutarsky for a week first) because I missed the Mk1 that I traded for the K1000. But I was disappointed when I got my K1000 as they didn't sound nearly as good as Namaan's pair. Mine seemed to lack some treble extension and detail that I heard in other sets, although sounding similar to Tyler's on a couple of different amps at RMAF. They also didn't seem to have the bass speed and detail that Naaman's had - with my ZDT the bass seemed mushy and blurred, with rolled off highs, although the mids were wonderful. I went through several amps trying to find the best synergy, and ended up with an SAC KH1000 amp that drove them really well. But, the SAC amp is slightly aggressive sounding and if I didn't have a pair that were somewhat more muted than others I might not have been able to enjoy them. I didn't realize that there are also pairs out there that can sound grainy, harsh or bright at times. Eventually I sold the K1000 to Immtbiker and used the money to buy the LCD-2, which I have a hard time using due to poor comfort. I miss the K1000 soundstage and I would trade the LCD-2 for a pair if I could. But I'd be worried about whether I'd get a good sounding pair or not. So, in Leonardo's case I would also recommend trying to find a good amp for them and keeping them, because he might also regret selling them like I do.

Nice. I have a dedicated beer fridge as well, but the kids have taken it over with tea and sodas.

It's called crepitus and also sometimes happens when someone breaks a rib and punctures a lung. I would have never thought to compare it to a pork roast, but his actual symptoms fit with this condition.

It'll be so sad if her Germany trip is canceled or disrupted by this, so I'm praying you're right. She's a great kid and I'd hate for her to not go after all her hard work to win the trip.

My LaCie Network Space MAX 2Tb is pretty reliable, however when it's serving variable bit rate music (ALAC, VBR MP3) on the shared drive the bitrate and song length is reported incorrectly. Once I play the songs, the time and bitrate changes to the correct amount. I spent 2 months with a service ticket with LacCie before I gave up hope. Even after 3 updates in 5 months they haven't fixed my problem, although they posted that the update is supposed to fix this. I had even bigger problems with a Netgear Stora.

That's good to know. I had read the following link from March 1st where it implied that firmware SD23 had the problems, and that SD24 fixed them - Seagate Firmware Update After I installed my drive I saw that it has Firmware Revision SD24, which I thought I had the latest. I also ran the Serial number checker at seagate, referred to by the first article, and it says "no download available for this serial number, and no action needed." But it seems that I missed the addendum at the bottom of the first link, and there is a new firmware SD25 that came out on April 1st. New Firmware - I will end up updating it, but might wait until I have issues. PS: I didn't go for a $900 480 Gb SSD because I may end up with a Macbook Air once they have lighted keyboards and Thunderbolt ports. If I don't keep any iTunes on the internal drive I'd have 40Gb free space on a 256 Gb MBA, with iTunes now on an external 1.5Gb drive.

Another one blows: Iceland Volcano Errupts They say it's not expected to disrupt european flights, at least for now. I hope not. My daughter is flying to Germany for 3 weeks as a school ambassador on 6/4 and I'd hate for this to screw that up for her - the whole trip is free and the flight is already booked.

I ended up with that Seagate Momentus XT 500 Gb SSHD Hybrid 7200 RPM drive for my 15" Macbook Pro. The things I read about it looked good, and $900 for the 480 Gb SSD I wanted was too much to spend on that right now. It's definitely faster than the Western Digital 640 Gb 5400 rpm drive that was previously installed. Even in an external case and booting via USB to test my clean OSX install, as soon as the drive learned what files to put in the flash memory the Macbook seemed to operate at normal speeds, despite using USB. With the drive installed internally the Macbook Pro boots faster and loads apps noticeably faster than before. Mail and iTunes pop open almost instantly now. I also have no slow downs after migrating all my data and apps onto the drive from backups. Based on the advice here, I did trim down my iTunes Library a good bit; and I put a full copy of my iMac iTunes library on a portable 1.5Tb FW800 drive to carry with me (and as back up). So, despite giving up 140 Gb of internal storage I still have over 50 Gb free space like before; and I managed to retain a 200Gb itunes library on the internal drive. Not keeping a subset of my favorite music and movies on the internal would be about as uncomfortable as "going commando", but if I had to I could make due with a 256 Gb internal, like on a future Macbook Air (want lighted keyboard and Thunderbolt port).
