Andy spilled the beans in another thread somewhere. The culprit is boilingfrog that guy who had his own R10s mangled by Jena Labs. He borrowed Andy's pair for some reason, reterminated the SinglePower replacement cable that was on it, ignored requests to return the cans, and then shipped them without telling Andy they were coming. They arrived in the state you see above. boilingfrog doesn't really post on HF but I certainly would never conduct any business with him or let him near me with a scalpel.

The ECD-1 impressions are very similar to mine. It is a musical and pleasing sound overall, but to me it is too polite as in laid back, too lush to extent of being mushy maybe even, and too smooth, as in smoothed out/rolled off. Probably sounds a little too harsh because it is nice sounding but those characteristics made it less than acceptable for my tastes. I'm betting on the North Star.

The Gil Melle titles? Those are great discs, and the CD has Modern Primitive (my fave of those 3) and Quadrama on the same disc.
