Audez'e LCD-2 - help needed for a DIY cable build

Featured Replies

Hello all!! This is my first post here and was hoping that you DIY'ers can help out a noobie.

This will be my first attempt at making a headphone cable and would like to know if this is the way to go about it...

Unbalanced cable using a 1/4" TRS plug and 2 mini 4-pin XLR's for the headphone end, left and right.

Is this the correct way for wire hookup? See diagram below.... beer.gif

Am I the only one who thinks the "balanced" wiring diagram, specifically the amp end of the cable looks a bit off?

QFT

Why would they tie the neg connection to ground for a balanced setup?

Isn't the "balanced" setup the same as "unbalanced"?

Can't find any other wiring schemes....

so... are all the "better" after market wired the same way and advertised as balanced?

wait a second....

Please. Pretty please. With a fucking cherry on top. dont post like this. This is how truly inane rumors get started.

The drawing above is wrong. I don't know whats right as you could do it several ways, but I know that this is wrong.

Would it really matter if they were wired like that? No need for ground with balanced and I doubt any manufacturer will have accomodated for shield at pin 1.

But why take the risk? A wise man once said, "Assumption is the mother of all fuckups."

True dat which brings up the 4-pin XLR issue once again. Even Sennheiser have adopted it now...

I think this comes down to the fact that the manufacturers can wire up their headphones any way they like , and with any connector they desire.

That is the correct wiring.

Ok thanks a bunch bandwagon.gif

Although, a couple of other people think differently...or... are they only referring to the balanced wiring scheme huh.png

the headphones cannot possibly know whether they are hooked up to

a balanced or unbalanced amplifier. Maybe if you want to get fancy

and add some extra weight you can use wire with a shield on it and

wire the shield to either xlr ground (4 pin) or the 5th wire (5 pin)

The first diagram is correct for unbalanced with a TRS plug.

Um, you can't be the monkey - there can only be one monkey in these parts.

Kinda looks like Yoda at first glance huh.png
