February 20, 201610 yr comment_720944 Took my Cary 300sei out of the garage not heated where it has been unused for over a year, amp was pretty cold temps in the high 40s. I should have let it get to room tempature but I didn't Amp turned on got a hum from the transformers I really never noticed before,Input tubes light up but My WE300bs never light up. Ideas? I have another set of we300bs ,but I don't want to take a chance installing them. I don't have any cheaper tubes to try. Report
February 20, 201610 yr comment_720950 Open it up and see if there is anything amiss? I think the tubes are AC heated in the 300sei so they should work unless the transformer is busted. Edit: Light up that is. Edited February 20, 201610 yr by spritzer Report
February 21, 201610 yr comment_720958 Ooohhh, hope the amp is ok Tom. It has a special place in my heart since I first heard it 15 years ago. Maybe have the guy who did the mods on it have a look? Report
February 21, 201610 yr comment_721004 I just looked at the internal pics I have of the stock 300SEI and the heaters for the 300B's are bad...real bad. They are just a tap off the transformer, fed through a diode bridge and into the tubes. Quite possibly the worst way to do this. Report
February 22, 201610 yr comment_721081 Tom I would invite in a cheap pair of 300b tubes while sorting this out as the price on the WE just keep going up and up. Good luck as I really liked your modded Cary Report
February 22, 201610 yr comment_721125 my 300sei went silent years ago - (blew a resistor). I replaced it - and it blew again - so that was not the issue. -- I have not gotten back to it... (and you Don't want to see the inside of this thing.. ooph).. I would give Cary support a call as well - the people I talked to years ago were very nice and helpful (at the time). good luck. Report

February 22, 201610 yr comment_721135 Or get in contact with Dennis Had directly via his email and see if he can give some pointers on troubleshooting/what is wrong. He did so with a few Cary products that went south that I owned years back. Report
