Project Scheduling Software

Featured Replies

I suddenly find myself inundated in projects, all with different final deadlines, and all with multiple progress points. For instance, I have a project I want to complete by May 1, but in order to do that I'll need to complete part A of it by March 30th, and part B by April 14th, and send out part C by March 21st, etc. There is obviously lots of project software out there, but most seems geared toward groups, or has too many features. I am looking for simple - no need for discussion boards, bug tracking, user management, etc. Does anyone know or use something that works well?

I'm starting to use Evernote more and more for just about anything with text.

So far it has all the notifications and reminder features I need.

And it's nice to have access to it from anything, anywhere.

Google doc spreadsheets ... you might need add a little logic in order to add some dependencies between tasks and might a pivot to get the status on your progress ....cost nothing and available on every platform

I tried some of the software offerings and found that they did not really fit my needs. So I decided to go old school. I bought a big roll of grid paper where I can put dates across the top, projects down the side, and keep track of lots of aspects. So far it works pretty well.

Sounds like all you are really only looking for a gantt chart or milestone chart.

There are a bunch of options - this is a good free one if you do not have more than 3 concurrent projects at a time: https://ganttpro.com/

There are also tons of Excel gantt chart templates you can download: http://www.vertex42.com/ExcelTemplates/excel-gantt-chart.html

Alternatively, a simple task management app could also work.  Just set due dates for certain tasks and it will notify you... plenty of iOS/Android Apps: https://itunes.apple.com/US/app/id497328576?mt=8

I didn't want to get chastised for suggesting this but it's what I had in mind all along. I still use it for med school. Works a lot better than any schedule app I've used. Allows me to see the whole month and all my classes in one go. Tasks get marked off as the week progresses.

More or less. But the paper works well. I like to see the whole thing at once.
