Well, it seems AKG has updated some of their mid-level phones. I just bought my K271 couple of months ago, too.

From their info page it just looks like they're throwing in accessories, at least w/ the k271 and k240. They could have made some other substantive changes, but then why the II?

Sucks if you bought them recently, but I bet the newer boxes won't get down to the prices the old version did for awhile.

I didn't really read/look all that closely, but changes look to be merely cosmetic. It's nice now that they're going to include velour pads, though. You don't have to deal with trying to get it from AKG.

Probably not, though when you factor in buying velour pads, that brings the price to about $190 or so.

Looks like they also have some other new models, like K242 and K272 HD.

k242 is oldschool iirc. I've never heard of a k272 and akg's website hasn't either. Where did you see this?

K272 HD looks like K271 with updated cosmetics and non-detachable cable.

I have to say that I really like the updated retro styling, even though retro has been so overdone lately.

I think the "HD" ones are ugly as sin. This coming from someone who feels the K1000 and Stax Sigma make him look sexy as can be.

i'm assuming you mean you hate having the cable only on one side right? because if you do, i'm in the same boat, that's the one thing that bugged the shit out of me with the AKG K271S and led me to sell it.
