Saw some talk about this and decided to make a new version. use either the tube unbal/bal to bal board, or the solid state version result is about 125 watts rms into 8 ohms at thd of .005% will definitely drive 4 ohms with suitably large power supplies. transistors are standard pinout, so pick your favorite output transistors. the to220 transistors are mje15034/mje15035 perfect for so many things, including esl boost transformers. pioneera09.pdf

That's awesome! You play music and record it using that?

Introducing the MA-009 - aka a quest to make the SR-009 suck a bit less...
Pirx replied to spritzer's topic in Headphones
Nice work, thanks for sharing. You report more bass and little different tonality that made them more enyoable for you. In summary the most important parts of this project: 1. Internal dimensions and stators are unchanged. 2. Protecting membranes are changed. 3. Diaphragms are new. 4. Green PCB changed to your own black PCB with higher distance for earpads's lips. Is it correct? I cannot find if you sealed them in any special way more than they were? If so, I guess that tension of new diaphragrams and dust covers are responsible for more bass. -
Makes a lot of sense. Binaural isn't my goal, but I'd like to faithfully reproduce/record the vinyl playback if it's feasible for less than $1k...probably not from the sound of things. I'd be running the streaming microphone off of the Behringer, so I don't think 70db of gain should be a problem. Not sure what to use for digital audio yet (I need optical in and out to loop in the Behringer), looking at the Soundblaster GC7 or maybe this as I think it will work... https://www.canadacomputers.com/en/external-sound-cards/237279/vantec-usb-external-7-1-channel-audio-adapter-nba-200u-nba-200u.html

I think they'll be too scared of the high voltages 😁 -

you should see some of the chinese cfa3 ripoffs for around $1600. one in particular is fairly decent, the rest are trash. just wait till the chinese start selling the D&G clones. running with multiple >1kv power supplies. what could possibly go wrong. - Yesterday

So they just stole the design and didn't even ask permission before selling it for 20k euros? -
A Jecklin disk is useful where you can't control your placement and are using a stereo pair of omni mics. If you just spread them a foot farther apart, you don't need the disk. My setup is an apogee element, and a parasound phono stage with xlr outs. I've used quite a few podcasting mics, most of them are fine. The nice thing about the SM7B ($250-300 used) is it sounds good while rejecting almost any noise RIGHT at the microphone. It needs a lot of gain to not sound anemic. The SM58 is the classic vocal mic. Runs about $50-100 used. Built like a tank, sounds pretty good (it's the standard vocal mic for a reason), doesn't require a lot to work well. It's not that a dummy head is inherently bad, it just takes a lot of everything to make it work right. Schoeps and Neumann both made dummy head microphones that were remarkable, but even they were hard to get good results from. Mostly useful for binaural listening, which honestly, most people don't like once the gimmick of it wears off.

Mics good enough to be worth it aren’t worth it if you don’t already have them.

finally an electrostatic transportable
kevin gilmore replied to kevin gilmore's topic in Do It Yourself
being retired means i get to do what i want to do and when. so the new thing based on the pioneer a09 (no not the a9) is also zero feedback, 120 watts into 8 ohms, damping factor of 100 and a thd about .001%. the absolute perfect thing to drive your lundhal electrostatic transformers. basically the exactly same ubal/bal to bal board in the cfa3, and then the high power buffers. pair of 30v 20 amp switching power supplies. -
Congrats! Enjoy retirement. Still a Legend. ❤️

What about using a Jecklin Disc? Might be better for the speakers, or you still think this is the wrong approach?
