  1. Happy Birthday Dan. The AI gods have smiled on you this year!
  2. I did some big boy wood working today. (Please Tice, stop snickering.) My (sainted, octogenarian) bought a "computer desk" at the end of the 20th century. It's made of solid wood, so it's still in one piece. Unfortunately, it had some really crap plastic-on-plastic casters that just disintegrated. Today I cleared it off of all computer hardware, flipped it over and gave it new feet: The new casters have a different screw pattern than the old one, but I re-used one screw hole from each so I didn't have to attempt any fancy alignment. I exited the proceedings with no more loose screws than I started with.
  3. Yes, I have the DVD set of the show. One of the greatest EVAR.
  4. The Leica makes a sound that sends my cats running as soon as I turn it on. Weird.
  5. Nice find! This is the original telefilm that was Max's debut to the world. The show that followed stretched this plot out a bit, without diluting quality. For a long time, my favourite show EVAR evar evar evar Now, it's still one of my favourite shows ever. But there's so many of them.

  7. I’m waiting for the Stax website to post that 9000 owners need to return their sets as the screens were installed the wrong way around….. 🤣
  8. Sure, if you aren't having fun then why on earth would anybody call this a hobby. I know far too many people take this way to seriously but I'd also say his post very much goes in that direction and comes off as nonsensical at best. Perhaps I'm biased by my own extremely low effort reviews but when you are drawing up multiple images... yeah... it all becomes a bit serious. I also very much agree that the review doesn't touch on how the headphones actually sound. To me they have a deliberately compromised imaging (as in designed throw a specific image but it doesn't really work or make any sense) so I feel it is a lot of BS thrown up to try and account for that. Electrostatics are (well should be) infinite baffle designs so if the room is having an impact... then the other side of the bipolar output is surely doing so as well. That will cause cancellations, time smear and totally fuck up the sound. I find it a bit funny how both designs that pay homage to the SR-Omega, leave out or fuck with, what is arguably its main design element. The ES-1a doesn't have the outer screen in place at all and on the X9000 they use a very different material and then angle the screen... and do it in the wrong bloody direction. The screen should have been denser and flat to the back of the drivers.

  10. Got the Leica and the D610 today. The lens on the Q is absurd. Sensor wise I think the two cameras are broadly similar. The Q might be a half generation better. Either sensor is more than good enough for me. But that Summilux!
  11. I just completed testing both channels of the latest version of the smd version of the CFA3 boards, and here are some distortion measurements: Test Setup: balanced 1KHz/6Vrms from Tektronix SG 505 oscillator, to HeadAmp Gilmore CFA3 (balanced output), to General Radio 1840-A output power meter & to Tektronix AA501A THD analyzer (which has about .001 to .003% THD on its own). 2Vrms Output THD Test (Load, THD) 300, .002% 200, .002% 150, .002% 100, .002% 50, .003% 32, .007% 16, .01% 6Vrms Output THD Test (Load, THD) 300, .002% 200, .002% 150, .002% 100, .002% 50, .003% 32, .013% 16, .15% 20Vrms Output THD Test (Load, THD) 300, .017% 200, .017% 150, .018% 100, .022% 50, .26% (12W) 32, .42% (18W) Max Output Level THD Test (Load, Watts, THD) 300, 2W, .03% 200, 3W, .03% 150, 4W, .04% 100, 6W, .05% 50, 12W, .26% 32, 18W, .42% 16, 20W (meter limit), <1% ZF, <.3% SS One thing that surprised me was the 2 channels had virtually identical THD (even in ZF mode) out to 2-3 decimal places until getting down to ~16 ohm impedances where there started to be a little variation
