  1. I went to the store and picked up a bottle of Oogie which I am enjoying right now. They did have Scapa 16yr which I almost bought but wanted to research it a little more since I had never heard of the brand before. Anyone had the Scapa 16? I've had the Laphraoig 10yr before but I preferred the Quarter Cask. Also, I want to try new bottles. Looked hard at the Lavagulin 16 which I have had a few times and liked. I think I want to try something without as much peat just for variety which is why I was looking at the Highland Park 18yr. I had a bottle of the Macallan 12yr and didn't like it because it had too much sherry. The Macallan 18 I have tasted was great but is also a little pricey. In the end however, I found a bottle of Germain Robin XO at the store and decided to get that instead of two bottles of scotch. I am still quite curious about others opinions for future scotch purchases. Why don't we have a list your favorites whiskeys thread??? By the way, the guys at the store said that Springbank was getting rid of the 10yr 100 proof. Anyone know about that. If so, I will probably pick up a bottle before they run out.
  2. Post your favorite Scotch(es). Laphroaig 18, Quarter Cask Talisker 18 Ardbeg Ten, Oogie Springbank 12 Cask I like peat. Original post:
  3. Happy Birthday!
  4. Happy Birthday Ari!!!
  5. ^So jealous. Note to self to make an appt tomorrow.
  6. The Hunger Games: Songs From District 12 And Beyond [Limited Deluxe Edition] The Smiths Complete [box Set, Original Recording Remastered]
  7. I figured that undercooked Brisket was slightly safer (in case I screw up). But (pork) ribs are great and a favorite of mine. Probably easy enough to test for doneness too.
  8. For the smoking experts, I got a Weber Smoking Mountain smoker for my B-Day. Haven't done any smoking in the past. What is the easiest meat to start with? I was thinking of starting with a brisket.
  9. More thanks! Got a Weber Smokey Mountain Cooker for my birthday! Can't wait to try it out this weekend. Also had some excellent birthday carnitas and margaritas for the birthday dinner. I am stuffed and happy.
  10. Thanks for all the birthday wishes! This thread made me smile. So far, the day has been pretty good. Started off with a good hard physical therapy session and then lunch in the department. I plan to do a little research and then pick my mom up from the airport who will be visiting for a week and a half. My mom strained her back the other day and has been in airports and airplanes all day so I don't think she will be up for much. So, it'll probably be a slow night with Tim and my mom - probably some Tex Mex carry out. There will be plenty of good wine and cocktails enjoyed though! Thanks for being such great friends! You guys are awesome! This is the best picture of the thread, love it Ric.
  11. I personally would feel more comfortable buying from B&H used than someone on ebay. (Can you take it back if it isn't in the condition it says it is in? They seem to have a 90 day warranty for used items.) It doesn't say it is missing the front and read caps, just the hood. The hood should be easy to replace. If it is on the camera all the time, you don't really need the bag. Looking at those used prices, I realize what a good deal I got on my (new) D90 and 18-200 Vrii combo at the time ($1289 shipped for both after $250 off).
  12. Damn, just finished and submitted grades. Will hit you up next year.
  13. Dinny, I don't know anything about the VR but like my 18-200 VRII. I pretty much just carry around the 18-200 VRII and/or 35 f/1.8 (for low light or better bokeh). If you are running around with kids, you are probably not going to be changing lenses much and the 18-200 is great for that. Of course, I would love to have a 70-200 f/2.8 but that is too much $$$ for my photo skillz.
  14. My sympathies Jim.
  15. Sorry Salty. More final exam grading for me.
  16. Finally read the Hunger Games. Certainly an easy book to get immersed in. Guess it's time to see the movie.
  17. I would like everyone to know that I survived the long trip on bread and water alone. I could tell by the look on the other passengers' faces that they were relieved to know that there was no killer sharp spreadable cheese on board. It's a good thing that I decided to keep my very large snow globe and hot sauce collection at home... I would have surely been locked up for such contraband.
  18. Had my sharp cheddar cheese spread taken away from me going through security at the airport. WTF. Now I just has bread.
  19. Congrat Mike and congrat Greg!
  20. You have a tough life Gene.
  21. My brother's phone is dying (only works about half the time) and I want to get him a cheap unlocked replacement (AT&T). He has data service right now. Newegg has the Palm Pixi plus for $65. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16875101040 Is there anything better around this price?
  22. Needs MOAR bacon!
  23. Sorry Bryan. I am finding that Iowa City isn't so bad. At least I can get some Founders and Bells. Kinda reminds me of Bloomington, IN. It's really quiet here though.
  24. On my way to the great cornfields of Iowa City.
  25. I grade all upper division and grad class exams myself.
