  1. Hi guys, Been a very rough week. Supervisor decided to take three weeks off on vacation, so I've been stuck trying to resolve things that are a bit out of my scope of knowledge. But I've managed! Last weekend, my brother's father-in-law was in the hospital. He had an epileptic attack at work and banged his head pretty hard on the floor. Mid-week, a close family friend had an aneurysm discovered and underwent surgery with 35% survival rate. Then on Thursday, my dad had to be taken to ER due to some very intense pains in his abdomen. Diagnosis? Huge kidney stones. He underwent surgery yesterday. It's been nothing but work and hospital "vigils" all week. Good news, though, is that everyone is okay now. Better news, I apologize for the delay in sending out the gear, but woke up early to do just that this morning before heading out to the hospital again. Tyll's address actually made me chuckle for a good while: BOZEMAN, MT. Of all things, Bozeman? As in Bose man? HAHAHAHA Anyhow, Tyll, I sent the amp over in one box and the O2's in another. The tube boxes are labeled in the top inside flap for the positioning on the amp (I guess they are biased for the particular socket?). There is a yellow DHL bag by the PSU section, don't throw that away. It isn't just padding, it also has the spiked feet for the PSU. The spiked feet for the amp are inside the small white box with the tubes. Umbilical cord is wrapped in some bubble wrap. I didn't send interconnects or power cord as I believe you wanted to supply your own for testing purposes. I also threw in a microfiber cloth for wiping the amp when you need to. You can keep the towel, I have plenty of those. I insured the shipment for the full $5k, just in case. Sent USPS Priority Mail, which means delivery should be Tuesday or Wednesday, I'm guessing. The O2's were sent in their original flight case or whatever you call it, so they are well protected. I hope you have fun doing all those tests! By the way, I also included some sticky labels inside a folder with the BHSE amp with your addess as Sender and mine as Recipient, so you can just stick that over the old one when you ship back. I included a couple so you can use it for the O2 cans as well. I'll pm you the tracking numbers.
  2. If you want the details about my particular build for documentation purposes, Justin would be the man to ask. Mine is #17, if I'm not mistaken. I'll try my best to get it out by Saturday... along with MK I (I think it's MK I?) in a separate box. I won't be able to use the cans without the amp anyway, so....
  3. I'll let everyone chime in on what they think, but my offer stands regardless.
  4. I got something you can borrow for a month or two, Tyll. My life's been so hectic I haven't been enjoying much of my gear lately (not to mention working 7:30am to 8:30pm sometimes). I just need some rest from, well, everything, I have two other amps to keep me company while you do your thing.
  5. Got this notification in my email today, posting it up since not everyone here is signed up to TTVJ: New Dac/Preamp?headphone amp from luxman: http://www.ttvjaudio...duct=725&image= There's also a new turntable from luxman: http://www.ttvjaudio...p?idProduct=724 as well as an integrated amp from luxman (though this obviously doesn't fall into source category, unless source of joy counts): http://www.ttvjaudio...p?idProduct=726
  6. Gary, DO NOT discuss your wood-carving techniques (on other sites I mean, here you can, but maybe keep it Casino only). You already have people copying your TP's, don't give out any more secrets. Keep some stuff confidential... just don't put nail polish on them. Heh.
  7. Condolences out to you and your family, Al. And... congratulations on having been blessed with such a great mother all these years. Very fortunate!
  8. Setting aside the fact that this is a promotional video for an upcoming game, I found it very well thought out, reminded me of "the walking dead" series. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0_KBtOVx-x0
  9. Just when I thought I had seen it all... BAM! Talk about shell-shocked! Those are... I don't even know what to say other than let all my salivating do the talking... dang, man! Way to show off!
  10. I think the delay is because they're radioactive now... which means they should be self-powered! No need for an amp! Oh wait, still need to get music to them somehow...
  11. It's my cousins' pet in Nicaragua. This is one of two parrots they have in their backyard (wings are clipped, so they can't fly away). They say people's names, laugh, cough, cry like babies, know a couple of phrases, and the latest (and funniest) addition to their repertoire is that they imitate the screeching sound of cars breaking on the road (there's a "highway" close by). I spoke to them this week via Skype, and they bought three more younger parrots (not quite newborn but you can tell they are very young still) for... get this... $2 each. Yep. two bucks a pop. Those things are expensive here in the states!
  12. You guys have some mad photo skills! I took the photo below with an old Konica Minolta Z3 that I wasn't using at home, so I gave it to my family in Nicaragua. Such wonderful colors in this lil bird... I know it's not a professional looking photo, but I look forward to reading this thread from beginning to end to get ideas of what you guys do.
  13. That's very nice of your wife, Steve, and, well, anyone else involved, Al. Superb gift! Fine craftsmanship there. It also looks heavy (as it should be). How much does it weigh? I will have to try this out with the wife... well, when I actually get one, that is.
  14. I always wanted a pair but kept skipping some sales because, as gorgeous as all of them were (and I did almost cave in sometimes), I was looking for something with mixed woods. I talked to Smeggy, and when he showed me the cups he was working on (see below), I simply knew they were meant for me. In a few minutes, I will go give them a listen. They are much bigger than I remember, which is a very good thing. I think good ol' Gary outdid himself this time. NOTE: for those seeing this page the finished product is on the previous page.
  15. Fizzling Canada Dry going up my nose right now due to your remark was a delightful sensation!
  16. The center wood is amboyna burl. I forget what the outside lighter wood is, so Gary would have to chime in, or perhaps another of the wood doctors can do so. I asked Gary to terminate to balanced, so I'm not sure if he replaced the cable in the process. I will give them a listen tomorrow (currently watching tv, so no dedicated listening time tonight).
  17. About time I post pics of mine (and yes, mine are flashy and not understated). I dub them: the TPAs (ThunderPants Areolas).
  18. I will lighten the mood of this thread by stating that a Liter bottle of Flor De Cana Rum, Gran Reserva (7 years aged) is less than $7 in stores here in Nicaragua when, in the states, I have seen it for $20 minimum. I have been unable to find a bottle of Havana Club though. Anyway, I am drinking about five miles away from a volcano, waiting for my cousins to get ready for our next outing, listening to some music and thinking that life is fuckin awesome! On my next trip here, I want to listen to a Stax SR009 setup next to a fuckin live volcano!! Unfortunately, I have yet to figure out how to power the setup. I am thinking of somehow taking advantage of all the inherent energy in lava, but my noobness can't figure out how to achieve this feat. Also, hardy har har to the 17 jokes... the truth is, that's how long I am. Now you all know. EDIT: Dang it, I didn't state a unit of measurement. Oh well...
  19. The whole 17 thing is because my birthday is November 17. Hence why I was surprised and delighted that the BHSE turned out to be that number without me asking for it. And yes, I would really REALLY like that check. Heh. Well, I'm off to pack for my trip. Great going-away present here! Thanks to all of you for making it possible.
  20. I bought 11 units. AHAHAHAHHA! On a serious note, if any of the units has 17 on it as serial number, as in 117, or 17, or 1117, 11117, I would really REALLY like it. But I doubt I'm that lucky.
