    RIP Amy

The recent concert footage seems much sadder now. Amy going on Mog. RIP.
  3. Actually, no, though once considering vinyl I thought of the reissues I had relatively recently missed (and considered some of the other series coming). Anyway I can't really answer your question about why except I think it's about process and interface. After a few weeks reading about DACs and possible upgrades and thinking of my network plans (have a hybrid Squeezebox and three Airport Expresses setup) and should I convert all my ALACs over to FLACs (as I've been encoding the last yearish and outside iTunes hassle-free tagging and no dupe files mysteriously created) or should I do the opposite in anticipation for iTunes Match? Or should I keep separate 'cause I have a horrible time focusing and splitting libraries helps (but a few other issues)? Then the CA Audio Show showed up and I saw some sexy gear and thought "you know walking over to a shelf and selecting what I want to hear wouldn't be so bad." At least at home. We'll see which of the various hassles bothers me most. I appreciate the warning though. One of the reasons I went with a cheaper model is because I'm not completely convinced yet myself.
  4. Maybe place one in each corner as support for a table? 38 albums in the last two days, including several Blue Note 45rpm reissues someone sold without opening.
  5. x2 BTW, this Lion hint off Fireball seems like it could be cool for checking in on HC from time to time.
  6. Oh, I'm sure I'm gonna love flipping those 45 reissues after every song! RP1 w/performance it is. Thanks guys.
  7. Very nice. Finally remembering to use the HC Amazon link... Rega RP1 w/performance pack.
  8. Congrats all around on the new MBA fold. Must join soon. Must join soon.

    Deals

Mark your calendars. July 20th, 2011 was when Deep Discount ran an email campaign for The Essential Tom Selleck DVD/Blu-ray sale. What the hell is Jesse Stone?
  11. Just found out my MacBook doesn't meet requirements.
  12. Fun quote: "Apple appears tired of dragging people kicking and screaming into the future; with Lion, it has simply decided to leave without us." http://ow.ly/1uOuTe
  13. Okay, guys at the risk of wearing out the HC kindness, I have another question. After visiting the California Audio Show last weekend I've been thinking of going vinyl instead of a second DAC. So, provided the same scenario - sold by Amazon (which mostly means a sub-set of Audio Advisor), anyone have any suggestions of a table to consider? Have ready read half the vinyl thread (rest tonight), several Steve Hoffman threads and climbed gerenally through the intertubes for the last week and still confused on how important pitch control is, how irritating a manual over semi-automatic would be, etc. Will investigate carts in a bit. It all started when I saw/heard the sexy Thorens TD 309, but there's the workhorse Technics SL-1200MK2, which I've heard can be greatly modded, Rega RP1 w/Performance Pack, etc. Here's a list, but in normal Amazon fashion, not all results come up even when 'turntable' in the title. Any help you could give would be greatly appreciated. This is all very new to me.
  14. Nice.Which sub?
  15. Nice and congrats on the house. Is there a local Nessy?
  16. Been going on for at least five months - http://ow.ly/5FJcJ
  17. Berkeley housing can be expenive, but compared to a lot of areas in US, San Dog is too, and I suspect same with Irvine. On plus side transportation is great, and lots of good food options in area.
  18. One UI not so simple is on the Squeezebox - for some reason they output all titles and you only find out if it playable in your region after clicking play. This can happen album after album. Have no idea total percent of non-US playable tracks, but from my searches it's a ton. So irritating.
  19. Here are some photos a BAAS member posted.
  20. Thanks for mentioning (and showing to me). The Tim Marutani Consulting Magico/Constellation setup was the best sound I heard yesterday.
  21. Depends what you're leaving in bed.
  22. Fan of A5s/not fan of A2s. Quad 12Ls Actives are better, but more problematic (possible preamp needed depending on your setup, decent DAC to excel over A5s, etc.). And more expensive. I end up using the A5s more than 12Ls for causal listening.
  23. Didn't Pete say something like P/V was "90%" of that big amp? And there's that return policy. Know which I'd choose.
  24. Abbreviated visit and my first 'speaker' show. Surprised at the difference from 'phone' meets (mostly in logistics and branding). Rooms overall small so sweet spots tend to be also (thus difficult to hear), but highlights on either end were a Napa Acoustic/Mistral $600 NA-208A amp/NA-208S speaker mini system and the 'big sound' Sony SS-AR1s (powered by Pass Labs mono-blocks). Also a little insight into Blue Coast recording techniques and DSD.
