An Audioengine rep at the CAS said he preferred the P4 and N22 over the A5 for his setup. Know no other details there. Most here are probably more familiar with A5s and 12Ls. I have both. 12Ls a step up, but require a better supporting cast. AEs more forgiving with associated gear. Depends on your situation which is preferable.

For the record (I know this makes me out to be a bit of an ass), last week I gave up and asked for a refund. Refunds were stopped earlier when they were days away, but they obviously missed ship date #126 too and Jerry was quoted recently saying people could have gotten their money back at anytime. Once they exhausted both the "we won't release until perfect" and "we rushed under public pressure" defenses I lost faith. Received a prompt response: "I'm sorry I cannot offer you a refund. There is only 1 person in front of you. Your earpieces have been completed and will ship in the very next shipment of amp pre-orders." I should have quit when during a move and job change my primary use stopped back in Oct. Should have again when the one year mark passed. Should have at each functional change (most recently code flashing drop). We were always 1-3 weeks away from shipping, so I stupidly hung on each failed cycle. Anyway, I'm not too surprised by their response (it is late, I had received a shipping notice - still open - so knew close, customer service is far from their strong point, etc.), and I mostly blame myself for the earlier inaction, but I hope this turns out to the damn portable Jesus system. Would love a happy-ish ending. Guess I'm to be the next guinea pig so will let you guys know how this beta version performs. Fingers crossed. EDIT: And JP I email twice about the analog/digital gain issue and asked what was planned. Didn't receive a response (though above mass email does address).

Thanks for the tips guys.

Okay, I'll try to keep the vinyl newbie questions to the minimum. Scouts honor. Loving the TT experience overall and especially with speakers, but (and yes, I had been warned) with headphones the surface noise/pops are a bit much as is. Reset the cartridge properly and verified weight/tone arm placement, cleaned records (though been playing mostly new Jazz reissues) and made sure needle was clean. Is there anything else to eliminate or is this the reality for this gear setup? It's sounding much worse than the needledrops I've collected (and never had a problem with phones).

Good Afternoon Everyone! Here's an update to get you through the weekend.. We have lowered the noise floor to a point that the amp/dsp noise is not audible. This final adjustment to the amp outputs have made the analog line In a touch too quiet. Therefore, we are increasing the gain of the line-in with a pre amp circuit. We are currently changing the PCB board to accept this gain stage. Please know that we are working as quickly as possible to get this mod implemented and 3As to everyone. We will give everyone a timeline update on the 4th of August. Please email or call with any questions or concerns. Thanks, JHA

Joining in on vinyl also, Earl Hines plays Gershwin.

Keep frosty Monkey. After struggling for an hour diagnosing a loose cart wire, set up my first turntable in 2.5 decades. Pops and surface noise returns! Like the look with the Luxman.

This is an old thread, but it seems everyone is confused about the multiple monitors-Thunderbolt situation.

Thanks guys. And Grawk I misread your comment as 'standard lap dances,' which was about to get admiration for your elaborate testing procedures.

Actually, no, though once considering vinyl I thought of the reissues I had relatively recently missed (and considered some of the other series coming). Anyway I can't really answer your question about why except I think it's about process and interface. After a few weeks reading about DACs and possible upgrades and thinking of my network plans (have a hybrid Squeezebox and three Airport Expresses setup) and should I convert all my ALACs over to FLACs (as I've been encoding the last yearish and outside iTunes hassle-free tagging and no dupe files mysteriously created) or should I do the opposite in anticipation for iTunes Match? Or should I keep separate 'cause I have a horrible time focusing and splitting libraries helps (but a few other issues)? Then the CA Audio Show showed up and I saw some sexy gear and thought "you know walking over to a shelf and selecting what I want to hear wouldn't be so bad." At least at home. We'll see which of the various hassles bothers me most. I appreciate the warning though. One of the reasons I went with a cheaper model is because I'm not completely convinced yet myself.
