Thanks for all the feedback so far guys. You're digging up some options that I hadn't seen on the site (and swear weren't returned in searches).
-
Maybe. Maybe even this.

dsavitsk, you may in the end be right, though I struggle with the cert/cash ratios. Thanks guys for your feedback. As always appreciate the comparisons. So far... Musical Fidelity V-DAC $299 (have my doubts, though V-Link has been a great surprise) Musical Fidelity M1 DAC $699 Cambridge Audio DacMagic $429 PS Audio - Digital Link III $799 Wadia 151 PowerDAC $1,195 Benchmark - DAC-1 PRE $1595

Showed up and then disappeared on Amazon. That was the plan during the Parasound sell-off, but with technology advances, tablets, etc. I was starting feel uncomfortable with an only OS X solution.
-
Help. So it's looking like I need another source. This is equally caused by a room change and stupidly selling the 13 Parasounds I owned recently. I strangely work for company that gives one-off bonuses with gift certificates. Although the list of certs is vast (if only I was looking for a iron skillet, maternity dress or rifle), for audio it comes down to Amazon.com. This is a secondary source so if possible it would be great if I could find an Amazonian solution here. That would probably mean one of these. I always have a Pico DAC to fall back to, but the Parasounds (and Lavry) show I can stretch further. There are some Benchmarks, a PS Audio and some Musical Infidelities here. What do you guys think? Money no object... unless it's too much. Likely paired with a Luxman P-1u or B22 with various Senns.

Me neither, but if you haven't seen the little seen Avanti! try to find.

Duggeh, is there anyone with Lemmon (Matthau, Curtis, MacLaine, etc.) that's not a great team? Damn, he made anyone great, greater. Like Falk, he seems to be the 'generous actor.' Here's a nice New Yorker obit for Falk focusing on his film career.
-
I came late to the Columbo show and the Cassavetes films, but few actors out there with such a low profile yet connected high stature over the years. And that little flick, Wings of Desire, where Peter Falk played an actor/ex-angel named Peter Falk... EDIT: First obits - Peter Falk, TV's rumpled Columbo, has died, Peter Falk: Beloved by comedians and cartoonists. And everybody else., Remembering Peter Falk, 1927 - 2011

Not sure if this has been posted recently, but...

Archos 7 Home Tablet with Android $79.99 http://www.woot.com/ "Sure, the touch screen is the clunky resistive type, and 8GB of memory isn’t a whole heck of a lot. But it’s shiny! Yeah, there’s no accelerometer or compass like an iPad, but that’s why I didn’t have to pay iPad prices. Okay, sure, it’s incompatible with any previous Archos tablet accessories, but that just means I’ll get to splurge on new ones! Well, yeah, there’s no video output or GPS ability or Bluetooth connectivity or Adobe Flash support and the app support isn’t so hot, but I got me a tablet! That’s all that matters! No more inferiority complex for me! YOU THINK YOU’RE BETTER THAN ME, MR. IPAD OWNER?! WELL YOU’RE NOT!"

JP, are you able to use the Halide for audio signal and separate USB for power from the same computer? Effectively controlling which input the audio signal is coming in from? The computer side is easy enough, but wanted to check on the JH3A end. Does 'digital' on the input switch cover both USB and coax or does 'line' cover both analog and coax (makes less sense, but same jack)? Also will JHAs lowering of gain likely increase bat life?

Maybe, but the funny thing is a few of us compared our 'reverb models' to others LCD2s without noticing a difference. In my case, and to confuse matters more, this of course was before I ever heard the reverb. A few of us did a test with my SE LCD2s against Craigs balanced LCD2s and were listening pretty closely for differences (like mono v. stereo, but that's another story) and at least at that time one didn't sound moar reverby than the other. And for the record it's wasn't like the the phones suddenly sounded different one day. Just a realization like other phones issues that creep up (most ATs and midrange, Lambdas and etch, etc.). I'd characterize the sound more as a nice 70s McIntosh system in a short cement block hallway.

AC powered USB hub recommendations?
blessingx posted a topic in GoRedwings19's Computer Help Hotline
I'm getting tired of crappy AC powered USB hubs going out over time. D-Link DUB-H7 most recently. Anyone have decent luck with one to recommend? -
And 'cause this Newman bug is showing no signs of leaving after a couple years... On Vine Street: The Early Songs of Randy Newman [import] Bless You California - More Early Songs of Randy Newman [import] 12 Songs by Randy Newman (with 1/0 friendly gold) Related: Personal Best: The Harry Nilsson Anthology [import] ... and some Vashti Bunyan beauty to combat the cynicism.

Received mine yesterday. Looovve stuff that just works.

Well, V-Link arrived today. With an iPad 1 + camera kit + powered USB hub (necessary for draw) + Musical Fidelity V-Link + Lavry DA10 I can confirm you can import 24 bit files up to 192 and output at least 24/96 (and 88.2). Not the most practical rig, but may be useful for some (and at meets). EDIT: Did more testing. It's complicated onboard.

Discovered on the Luxman P-1u and Nugget B22 here. Didn't have the Peak/Volc at the time. Suspect it's more tracks, ears and especially irritations.
