head-fi is down! wah! now i have to come here again!

personally i'd rather see the release valve here than over there. and being concentrated over here ups the entertainment factor, so there's always a need to check both forums

CHAD VADER. Episode 1 Episode 2 Episode 3
-
aw man, i'm really sorry to hear that. Jazz sounds like he had a great life with you guys, and vice versa.
-
ok this one is for Edipisreks - an Acoustic version of Who Is It. It's actually not bad - he kinda looks like KG. Too bad MTV won't play bands that don't look airbrushed anymore. http://youtube.com/watch?v=-SdAJSKsxnA&mode=related&search= He does a mean cover of "Hey Ya" too, lol.
-
well i was thinking of posting this in the vibrating ipod thread over there, but i think things are a bit more lax over here... Apparently this gizmo is making the rounds, in conjunction with this timely video by the snaggletoothed http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PPdTqDfpWyo I suppose they would make sense as a pair. Don't worry kiddies, you aren't going to be able to see it unless you jump through some 18+ hoops. Or, you know, hack. How am I gonna stop ya?

North Korea can't be ALL that bad...
-
congrats to yous guys! now rack up the headphone debt!
-
yep, the inside joke is that if a thread is close to being shut down due to, uh, displeasing elements, usually the Clown from the Apollo Theatre comes with the hook to take the thread off the stage so to speak - the "Clown" in this case taking the form of a box of pretzels. Or churros. Usually a pretzel versus churros war on a thread = death knell, because the mods then know the thread is derailed beyond repair.
-
thanks - you can tell it was rushed and raw, since i had 10 min to lay the whole thing down before the wife came home from her dogwalk. why can't i just play in peace, woman??
-
yeah, redraw his pretzel guy! it's a great idea - the arms look like they're in a straightjacket, but folks in the know will see the pretzel...
-
yay, plastic even cheaper looking than the prestige plastic! whee!

Are new headphones getting better, and if so, how much?
Post replied to aerius's topic in Headphones
Yeah, I heard the PS-1 with pinched waist amperex and DA BASS omg. Even through tamer mullards, the PS-1 was a beast, but it was a fun manageable beast. Telefunkens would probably be right up the PS-1 alley in a Melos. -
the scary thing is , this edit done to Joy Division is REALLY well done - in a creepy kind of way

My cans are from 1984 and 1988 respectively, so I reserve judgment -
talk of headbutting gives me a headache. must relieve pressure...must...HEADBUTT!

How cool is that, AKG didn't mind looking at stuff under warranty even tho recabling would usually void warranty, right? Class act.
-
yep those are the baby ones. they'll peel off someday when they're good and ready!
-
if your fingers are getting shredded, you're doing something right! just make sure not to play so much that you rip through what's growing down there that you need to keep - the developing permanent calluses. tip - start to bleed? gone too far.
-
Ooh, Alvarez, nice! Looks like a solid spruce top too! I see you got the cutaway in case you want to start shredding, hehe. That axe should be just fine to learn all your chops on - you probably don't need to move to a bigger axe until, say, 5 years from now when everything is on automatic for you and you'd like to test yourself on a Martin or Taylor, etc. Congrats, she's a beaut! Edit - just noticed the pickup controls on the side. Ah, so you're going to gig out with this baby? it looks like it's a Jumbo, so it should produce enough air on its own in a coffeehouse setting anyhow (and Jumbos are usually Maple which also helps with projection) But it never hurts to amp up for the fingerpicking stuff.

"Alex, How Could You?" But seriously, it's funny that this is a confirmation that these guys definitely do try to make shills out of head-fiers. C'mon folks, if you accept the unit for free, your positive review is going to be suspect no matter how honest your impressions. Also, any head-fier should also spell out the "freebie" fact before a review so everyone knows its comes with a grain of salt. Even pro reviewers refuse to take payola, instead just borrowing a demo unit and sending it back, or paying for it if they really love it after the review.

We played the prototype GS1K through my Melos SHA-Gold at the Nat. Meet. good times. I don't think you'd be unhappy with it. Like Redwings, I use the Melos as my headphone amp, and when it's time to crank the speakers, the Melos sends a nice passive line out signal (meaning, it bypasses the tube output stage) to my Marantz receiver (you could just use a simple power amp of course). The active line out (tubed) sends a beefy signal to my Stax amp, which helps mellow the etchiness. All in all, the Melos is the heart of my rig, and can handle it all.

mjg, those were the two funniest posts ever posted here back to back.

unrelated, but out of phase pickups on a Stratocaster makes for some badass quacking sounds.
