I feel like a tool enjoying the sound of my own voice, but don't blame me - it's damn fun getting into home recording and tweaking it to sound better in fidelity than 90 percent of the stuff pumping through my rig at the moment. The only downside is - uh, it's me singing to myself. Guilty Pleasure.

count me not on that list. why i bought a DVD-A before i got a player, i'll never know. that Led Zep "How the West was Won" is still sitting there taunting me - it just doesn't sound the same out of my normal DVD player (not that it shoudl of course!)

no worries, i don't insist on having my non-pussy reputation spelled out to me, i'd rather live in blissful ignorance/denial. the MOT thing is a hassle, as is modding (in any board, i feel your pain guys) and even a high post count. that crap makes you a target and opinions are formed about you whether or not they are warranted. yes there are boundaries of personal responsibility, but that should be more about self-enforcement instead of peer pressure. as for turning a profit, it's all karma. someday HF-1 #200 will be back in my hands!

if it's a bit loud externally but keeps the overall noise floor in the signal lower, that's not a bad tradeoff - just hide that thing in a closet or something. i know i never hear my melos hum when the music's playing - it's just a bit of an annoyance when all is quiet.

i was sooo lucky to find a NOS ortofon OM10 stylus for 25 shipped on ebay since the cart was just fine. i admit, it sounds nice, but my TT's quartz tracking is broken so i have to "figure out" the correct speed on my own using the pitch control...too much hassle!

bah, that marantz TT pic is blocked at work, i'll check it at home. btw, the virgin megastore here in nyc carries tons of vinyl, even albums of contemporary artists and audiophile reissues. they cost a ton but it's nice that the option is there. they also carry the DJ discs of course as well.

i've done this and i like the AE-1 more. the bass doesn't go as low as the hornet, but it's tighter. the highs on the AE-1 go WAY higher, but aren't bright. but perhaps a tad artificial in the way it makes you think it's more resolving as a result? the mids are dry on the AE-1 versus the hornet's warmth, but the AE-1 has plenty speed, which is important with portable cans, which can be quite slow. end result? the AE-1 isn't a neutral amp either, but it does compensate for portable cans and ambient noise properly and thus makes a better portable amp SQ-wise than the Hornet. i almost don't want to futz with the AE-1 via upgrades - but I would like a power switch on the face. I have to take my amp out of my bag every time to turn it on and off and it's putting a strain on my cables.

two months? man yikes - seriously, just grab a dvd player from around the house and invest in a cheap external DAC for now or something. 2 months is killer.

My TT is rotting on top of a shelf right now - I have to admit, computer-as-source is way too easy to have to reach for vinyl as an alternative. but for looks, you gotta have a platter on top of your tower!

exactly - 1911 finally burned in my modded HF-1s over there (over 60 hours) and he said they now destroy his K701 (albeit his K701s only have about 300 hours on them, AKGs take longer to break in). nothing like hearing for yourself! and what's this biz with tyre? i'm too lazy to read back. i don't devour EVERYTHING on this forum, you know!
