the gs-1000s should be a good match with cardas headphones wire (with good xlr plugs, of course)...silver probably just won't do with grados because of sibilance.

which solid state amp should i go for? the 717 or the KGSS? i know a stock kgss is 1.5k but i don't know how much does the 717 cost...

IMHO the hr-2 is probably ray's best amp (with the right op amps).
