When I had a Melos a couple years ago the Amperex PW 7308s were my favorite tubes for it. Shame they've become even more outrageously priced.

I actually owned the metal version of those a few years back. Think they're called the EM-9R?? They sounded ok but I thought they were hideously overpriced.

Well of course it's unbelievable it's on TV . Still though I just expected that the camera crew helped him out and that there was some sort of medical staff around. I never would have expected they'd be staying in luxury hotels half the time.

I tend to agree and this is a big part of the reason why I'm not overly fond of the R10, RS-1 and GS-1000. Sure they can sound great with very specific types of music and I guess if I only listened to that one specific genre they would be great phones. But I listen to a wide variety of music so I want versatile headphones.

No my amp isn't tuned for R10's why would it be? I tried every tube combination I could think of from 6sn7/2c51/6414/12au7/5687 as the input tube to the 6080/6528/7802 as the output tubes. They just aren't headphones I like very much. Yes I do listen to quite a lot of rock, but I do also listen to vocal, jazz and the occasional classical. Didn't really like the R10 with any of the music I tried them with.

I still had the R10's a little bit after getting my current SinglePower amp and my thoughts on the R10 changed very very little.

SP does custom SA's now I believe its one of those.

Yeah the Prestige is a much better movie and yeah Biel and Johansson can tag team me anytime they want. Looks like there's a Man vs Wild marathon on discovery today, probably watch a couple hours of that.

I watched The Illusionist tonight, pretty good movie and Jessica Biel is really really hot.

I believe they are part of the supposed "bass-light" ones but I don't remember for sure. I actually think they were as bright as the CD3000, though my biggest problem with the R10's treble was sibilance. I actually like the Qualia better so far, they have a really nice soundstage its huge but remains remarkably cohesive and they have really precise imaging. The midrange is a bit sterile though, and while they have nice tight bass it's nowhere near as deep or impactful as the L3000s is.

Either those L3000s were broken or those R10 are the one super magical pair that actually sounds good.

I borrowed a pair of R10 for a couple months and was totally unimpressed by them. Lacking bass response (especially compared to the L3000) and a treble that can be absolutely shrill and brutal. The midrange is really nice as is the soundstage, though I still think the soundstage has a real artificial sound to it. I think if you'd like them or not depends a ton on what your looking for out of headphones.

It's looked better for them since the day they made it. I know Vick supposedly has all the physical skills required to "revolutionize" the QB position. But he still can't read a defense worth a damn.
