  2. Well, way more estrogen here than meets the eye.
  3. Yeah, that plug is why I used the Woo on the XPM - no other use for it in comparison.
  4. Well, Marc is the designer, where the design goals were BHish, but with 6s4a tubes. Marc SHOULD have his built... mine looks like: Now, what Peter was referring to is the Poor Mans stat amp (~$300), which looks like, but not quite there, though in final proto, with one up and running, one damn close, another by the weekend, well, then mine, which is always the problem child. -=I=- am DIY's lowesr common denominator - sorry Smeggy. God damn, by spirits are flagging, and I still have to fix one channel on my BH - worse that Mikhail, except I'm just fucking myself over.
  5. I wired up some new voltage regulators, and watched the solder on the diodes bubble - pretty surreal, but no arc, no spark, but melted electrical tape the board was sitting on.
  6. Amazing you keep stat equiptment in places like this: That was BFE West of Baghdad This is BFE Kandahar (compliments of my brother with MARCOM) Someone in Israel asked me how to keep dust off the stats - I wouldn't have the first clue, as I understand it to be more like talcum.
  7. Sweet jesus, look at all those 2sc3381... good thing I have ~100 onhand... ;-) And, oddly enough, a bunch of 2sc3675... but, no, I have no business doing this build, unless I happen to have some of the iron onhand.
  8. If Gamerphile (he's in Denmark, iirc) is there, he will have a balanced cable. And, Alex offers retermination for a reasonable price. You can also get some hd800 connectors from him at a reasonable price to roll one yourself. Be warned that a replacement stock cable is (was for me) $163, so there are no cheap alternatives, save picking up an existing balanced cable, and use some hd800 connectors. Not the easiest thing to do, but there is help available.
  9. I bought a bunch of lambskin on eBay and had a local leather guy make mine for some CD3k, after I struggled to screw them up. Respect in pulling this off.
  10. Demand an immediate refund, no conditional, not 'if shit happens'. Post it publicly on Head-fi. That is inexcusable. Without knowing a forking thing, you could have done better yourself, just asking for guidance from folks on this thread. And, no one, I mean no one can wander drill marks like Peter. And, no one can jerk a refund claim around for 9 months like Peter. Don't let -=Stacy=- be like Peter.
  11. This is it - Marc should probably discuss it in length, as it is his design.
  12. Wake me up, as you'll probably still beat Marc. Yeah, had too because of the DACT. Just pointed out to Naaman that smaller is often better... and someday I'll make it multiple bias. Or, maybe he'll do another run of boards when he gets unpacked.
  13. I'm scared, and man enough to admit it... yeah, today, maybe. Would feel so much better if Marc could hands on QC. Riken, Takman, and a few PRP. Not to worry - the grounds have been fixed. Just.hard.to.dew.eet!
  14. Alex is a bit stumped on this one. We sorted the psu, but have some mystery in the middle stage of the circuit. The BH derivative (aka Vulcan) is done, I'm just afraid to flip the switch. Just wanting some additional eyes to check things, then the (way more) advanced version will be available for intermediate DIY builders. Something like this:
  15. I am quite embarrassed that my impressions to date are with my balanced Bijou, which, while quite good, is not my best amp. There is one better built (Raven, IDHT, with Swedish iron) but not through QC and biased, which I'll hopefully get together within the month, then building something even beyond that I just got all my Japanese iron in yesterday. Time to finish up my regulated DC heaters (fully DHT), and that one will also be a couple of months out. And, I still need to shoot out the hd800 and he60 with equally capable amps, so maybe within 60 days or so. And, emotionally uninvested observers will help with the final judgement(s), probably more about the amps than the phones. But, hd800 is getting all my playing time these days.
  16. I will only (ever) sell my he60 if absolutely forced to... along with the two amps built to drive them. And, even as much as I hate the hev70, that is part of the package. Now, if I could only get the balls to flip the switch on the new stat amp... just too much expense to endure any archy-sparky. Then I'll know how the he60 really compare to the hd800. But, then I have to have a comparable dynamic amp.
  17. I listen to the music, but want to know what all the parts are that make it up, as if someday I'd like to reproduce the part (bass or guitar), and have no chance if you can't ever hear the distinct parts. The hd800 does that exactly for me, then, it's up to me to reassemble the parts while listening. For what I mostly listen to, I doubt there is much soul, as opposed to production engineering, knowing how the music is put together, from initial writing through the recording process. If it were just guys walking into a studio and doing direct recording, then maybe, but in most "commercial" music, it really is how well they processed all the parts. Even for something like "Get The Knack", that was all done in 3 days, there are several takes, overdubs, etc. that sound fresher than something that took a year of studio and post production time. So, that type thing has the sintered listen, as well as the individual instrument layer, then how well the parts are interwoven, which the hd800 makes possible, moreso than anything I've heard to date. Now, the search for the right amp continues...
  18. EA-6 be ugly on the inside...
  19. Jane's Addiction, Layne's Addiction, Jett, Tool, Godsmack, Drowning Pool, Mudvayne, Zappa, Devo, Beck, Radiohead and Cruzados. In the car it is Exit 74 on the XM Highway - Bluesville.
  20. What a piker - certainly you can do better than that. Now please excuse me while I _try_ to keep from doing that with some basic ground wiring. She is Stacy, aka -=Germania=- on HF.
  21. Wise move on my part sitting this one out.
  22. Yeah, had to follow that up with Drowning Pool... I'll be on the look for Trinity.
  23. Yes, the 950 through the BH convinced me I should buy a pair, once I either unfuck the BH, or fire up the Vulcan (BH cousin)... must get motivation...
  24. Ah, I remember now - just too mellow... and the cover of 'Powderfinger' is... well... not.
