  1. Ok, this just in. Looks like my parents are pretty much sold on iTunes as the interface. So it will need to be an Apple solution of some sort, I think.
  2. I left my briefcase at my parents' apartment this evening, which means I don't have my iPad--and won't until tomorrow. I actually miss it. Pathetic.
  3. Nice. I'm a bit of a fanboy and I'm glad to see others enjoying this DAC.
  4. Nice. I've always wanted to try the Lavry.
  5. I'm really not keen on going lossy, but that may need to be the case. I'm beginning to think I should just get them a damn Mini and let them use that. They could use a small LCD flat screen TV as a monitor with the mini, right?
  6. Excellent! Nice DAC isn't it?
  7. The 3GS at $99 is kind of compelling. If the iPhone does come to Verizon, I guess I could sell the 3GS unlocked at a profit. Or do I just suck it up and get the 4?
  8. Check out this page on the Neko forums, maybe it will help. Neko Audio • View topic - D100 Frequently Asked Questions
  9. Well, Ric, don't make us guess--what are you going with, the Lavry?
  10. Wes Miaw (Neko Audio) is a member here and pretty responsive to PMs and emails. Give him a shout.
  11. Dan, the more I look at it, the more I like your idea. It also helps me in my effort to make my parents all Apple. A few more questions: - I assume I can hang additional drives off the Apple TV to expand storage, is that correct? - Does the new AppleTV allow you to attach a hard drive for music storage? - What are the biggest drawbacks to the AppleTV approach, if any?
  12. Ric, FWIW, I know the PWD supports it, and I believe the Bryston BDA-1 does, too.
  13. Thanks Todd. What do you think about the older version AppleTV idea?
  14. Ah, ok. Post edited above to give proper thanks...I saw Marc's username at the bottom of the page and got confused.
  15. Good point re the library Marc Haj, I've never liked that aspect of Squeezebox.
  16. You haven't met my parents. They must have some sort of EMF properties. Place a computer (or computer-like) device within 3 feet of them and they will somehow fuck it up. EDIT: Regardless, I am going to price out your suggestion.
  17. JH-16 (for the hip-hop).
  18. and therein lies the rub. No TV in the area(s) where most of the listening would be done, and they don't have iphones or itouches. But I hear what you're saying. An AppleTV, maybe with a small monitor and maybe I convince my dad to get an iPod touch. Still, sounds like it's getting a little complicated. Is the Duet/Sonos stuff not suited to this?
  19. Dan, How do they then access the music? They'd need a monitor or TV, right? And a remote?
  20. I would like to rip my parents' CD collection and "share" mine with them. They already have a multi-room setup, so I wouldn't need to put wireless speakers, etc. all over. Unfortunately, it's a B&O setup and you know how friendly they are with non-B&O gear. Regardless, I figured out a way that I can hang a network audio player off the B&O system and make it work. But here's the thing, I want to get my parents something like a Sonos or Duet (or anything else people can recommend) and set it up such that they don't have to use the computer. Can this be achieved via NAS, so that the Sonos or Duet or similar would just talk to the NAS and we could eliminate the computer from the equation? My parents fuck up computers all the time, so it's pretty much out of the question unless MAYBE I got them a cheap netbook, but I would prefer not to. Basically looking for digitial audio server for (nice and much-loved) dummies here.
