Well, actually, the reason is that is the strategy I used to decide which I liked best. Scanned them all quickly a couple of times and just picked. Really couldn't articulate why with much insight. I've been trying to do this with decisions when I find myself waffling. I think it may be applicable to your larger point. Or I'm just full of shit. Likely both.

Thanks Dusty. That actually describes very well some of the differences I am finding between sources. "Grain" is also a word that comes to mind.

I think you need to temper your expectations. Based on what you've already selected and your stated budget, your system will sound great, but you will not be near the top end. That said, I love the Lambdas (regular, pro, Sig) out of the GES. Perhaps the 404 LE. I haven't heard them, but what I've read has been very encouraging.

Further to the above, I am wondering if people can help define what they mean by a "digital" sound. We're all familiar with this refrain when critics talk about DACses' shortcomings, but what does it really mean? In particular, for those of us who don't have much experience, if any, with hi-end vinyl, how would you describe this "digital" sound signature?
