Thanks, Ric. DLing now. I keep trying to get into jazz, and I keep failing. This app looks cool. I have too much good stuff on this here computer now to not learn more.

Glad to hear everything came out ok.

Really? If you did, that's an awesome deal. I like my ID more and more every time I use it.

Thanks Brent. I'll probably go thru amazon because I can use Amex points there.

Thanks mpi. Lesson learned here. And I gave those caps a good long time to discharge before I put the cover back on.

Good advice, thanks. Printed on the fuseholder is "300V maximum" so I think it's ok, but I will get the same fuses asap. In other news, a little arcy-sparky tonight when I stupidly tried to put the amp cover back on while the thing was running and caused a nasty spark on top of one the big caps. Huge "SNAP" and spark. No shock to me, but it was scary. Seared part of the PCB, too. But the thing is still running fine. That surprises me. I'm not so good with the electronics.

Ok, so I did some research and replaced the 8A 32V slow blow fuses with 4A 250V fast blow. So far so good. I will let the amp run a bit to make sure all is ok (OR UNTIL ONE OF YOU TELLS ME I WILL BURN THE HOUSE DOWN), then shut it all down and find the correct spec fuses.

I feel like I'm always asking this question, but fuses confuse me: I have an 8A 32V fuse. I will replace it with like kind if possible, but if I can't find one around (likely) what kinds of ratings can I use to at least see if this thing works? For example, would a 4A 250V fuse suffice or is that what makes things go boom?

Had a decent day Friday. Went to 6am spin class. Got a bunch of shit done at work. Found out some work gossip that is interesting and will impact me, but unknown as to how (not bad, but not necessarily good). I suspect that a few people in my department and a few others with whom I work closely will be getting promoted, and I will not, which will be just another sign...Anyway, we'll know more next week. Then drove out to East Hampton. That drive always makes me nuts, so I had too many whisk(e)ys upon arrival. Not I feel not so much with the good.

Happy Birthday Colin!!!

Following up on the above rant, it now appears that the iPhone will be arriving tomorrow. Going through the VZW website for current customers might be the best way to go. We'll see if it actually arrived. Missus Monkey is psyched, by the way.

Having just gone through the experience of buying an iPhone through Verizon, I think I have insight into the problem(s). First, Verizon brick & mortar stores are awful. I've found that the mom & pop shops that are allowed to carry Verizon phones are usually better. Regardless, I went to two different Verizon stores to try to get an iPhone. No iPhones available. But what was weird was that they wouldn't answer the simple question directly: Me: "Do you have iPhones in stock?" Them: "Well sir what would you like to do?" Me: "Upgrade my wife's phone and walk out of here in 5-10 minutes with an iPhone." Them: "Well, we can help you and then maybe order one..." Me: "Do you have them in stock right now?" Them: "Well, let's just see what we can do and then we can get one delivered..." Me: "So, the answer is 'No.' Just say that first next time." What the above conversation tells me is that the B&M stores could be holding stock for people who are going to pay full price or are switching from ATT. Their evasiveness led me to believe they had iPhones in stock. If you have them in stock, sell the fuckers. Otherwise, you won't sell as many. I didn't even take Econ 101 and I know this. Anyway, the online ordering process through Verizon is much better, though not necessarily smooth. Regardless, I was able to get a 32GB iPhone for the Missus for $199. I don't think that deal would have been honored at a VZW B&M or an Apple store based on past experience. So, I guess the bottom line is that Verizon's customer service continues to suck. But the reception is still the best in NYC. But VZW has a very arrogant air about this launch and it does not serve them well. If I wasn't desperate to get this for Missus M. I would have told them to take their nonexistent iPhones and shove them where the sun don't shine. /rant
