Had a decent day Friday. Went to 6am spin class. Got a bunch of shit done at work. Found out some work gossip that is interesting and will impact me, but unknown as to how (not bad, but not necessarily good). I suspect that a few people in my department and a few others with whom I work closely will be getting promoted, and I will not, which will be just another sign...Anyway, we'll know more next week. Then drove out to East Hampton. That drive always makes me nuts, so I had too many whisk(e)ys upon arrival. Not I feel not so much with the good.

Happy Birthday Colin!!!

Following up on the above rant, it now appears that the iPhone will be arriving tomorrow. Going through the VZW website for current customers might be the best way to go. We'll see if it actually arrived. Missus Monkey is psyched, by the way.

Having just gone through the experience of buying an iPhone through Verizon, I think I have insight into the problem(s). First, Verizon brick & mortar stores are awful. I've found that the mom & pop shops that are allowed to carry Verizon phones are usually better. Regardless, I went to two different Verizon stores to try to get an iPhone. No iPhones available. But what was weird was that they wouldn't answer the simple question directly: Me: "Do you have iPhones in stock?" Them: "Well sir what would you like to do?" Me: "Upgrade my wife's phone and walk out of here in 5-10 minutes with an iPhone." Them: "Well, we can help you and then maybe order one..." Me: "Do you have them in stock right now?" Them: "Well, let's just see what we can do and then we can get one delivered..." Me: "So, the answer is 'No.' Just say that first next time." What the above conversation tells me is that the B&M stores could be holding stock for people who are going to pay full price or are switching from ATT. Their evasiveness led me to believe they had iPhones in stock. If you have them in stock, sell the fuckers. Otherwise, you won't sell as many. I didn't even take Econ 101 and I know this. Anyway, the online ordering process through Verizon is much better, though not necessarily smooth. Regardless, I was able to get a 32GB iPhone for the Missus for $199. I don't think that deal would have been honored at a VZW B&M or an Apple store based on past experience. So, I guess the bottom line is that Verizon's customer service continues to suck. But the reception is still the best in NYC. But VZW has a very arrogant air about this launch and it does not serve them well. If I wasn't desperate to get this for Missus M. I would have told them to take their nonexistent iPhones and shove them where the sun don't shine. /rant

Despite my Bihn fanboism, I am not a fan of the Ristretto.

Fuckin' A.

cool. Only problem is that I want firewire option and that drives up cost.

So is this whole drive specifically for Mac a bunch of hooey?
-
happy birthday, Steve. Have a great one!

Ok, thanks.

My 500GB external drive is filling up. So I want to get a 1 TB drive. That seems to be the right price point because I'll need two (one for backup). Unfortunately, the damn enclosures I'm using have a chipset that supports IDE not SATA. Not sure what I was thinking there. I'm thinking of just buying 2 pre-built external drives. I haven't done this in a while, but some of the mfrs. market their drives as Mac-specific. Is this bs? I forget. What do I need to look for?

A lot of the data I've seen suggests that the ibuprofen pain relief dosage really plateaus at around 800mg (4 tablets). The higher doses are moar better for inflammation. But I'm no doctor.

I have had various joint and other injuries, as well as major abdominal surgery, so have been on various pain meds over the years. The non-opiate pain relievers that I have found most effective are: Toradol - Had it post-surgery and I swear it was a miracle. It's like an NSAID on, er, steroids. But you can only take it for 5 days or your stomach falls out of your ass or something. Mobic - Cleared up a majorly swollen knee due to Lyme disease and worked very well on the pain Prednisone or other similar steroids Relpax - migraines In OTC land, 3-4 Advil can work. Aleve sometimes works on minor pain. I won't take Tylenol mainly because (a) it doesn't actually work and ( destroys one's liver at disturbingly low doses.

I'll take the advice of esteemed counsel over some bone-bender every time. The Eagle will be landing in my stomach shortly.
