  2. I am constantly thinking about getting a turntable (not like a high-end one, just something basic that can do the job), but one thing that is holding me back is my worry that headphones, due to their close placement to the ears, might exacerbate vinyl surface noises to the point of distraction. Is this worry warranted? I will probably get a basic vacuum cleaning machine if I do end up with a table. And of course a lot depends on the table itself, cartridge, phono stage, and set-up, but in general, has anyone found that using headphones to listen to vinyl has picked up surface noises to the point of distraction? And if so, how have you dealt with it?
  3. Disappointed that they decided to phase out the 160 gig: I'm already at 111 gig for my 160gig, so 120 gig definitely ain't cutting it. And this is not even encoded in ALAC, only at 192.
  4. Apparently, Oklahoma is letting people choose its official rock song. "Do You Realize?" is one of the choices, so vote for them! Oklahoma Rock Song
  5. I think it depends on how experienced you are with high-end headphones. When I finally got my O2s, I already had a K1000 system and a L3000 system, but the O2s were my favorite. They didn't blow me away, but I could immediately tell that they were very special.
  6. Has anyone had experience with Mirage speakers?
  7. I found out today that the wiring on the right earpiece of my SE530 is loose, so that whenever I move, the signal cuts out. Fortunately they are still under warranty, so I sent them in for Shure to repair. My question is: what could have caused the wiring to be loose in the first place, so I can prevent this from happening in the future. I have been running with them on the treadmill everyday for the past two months, so is it that? And if it is, color me disappointed, because I thought the build quality should be able to withstand running.
  8. I had a S&B unit (mark 2 i think), but I eventually sold it because it wasn't loud enough for me. But then again, I identify more closely with the postjack school of volume, and I had no complaint about the resolution/detail/tone of the TVC when I had it.
  9. The Hold Steady at the 9:30 Club in Washington, DC. Man, that was a fucking great show, one of the best I've ever attended: the band was energetic, and it was rocking all night long.
  10. Work out running.
  11. Good call on the NIN; I've just been too lazy to make a playlist, since I'm always used to listening by albums.
  12. So I've been running on the treadmill lately, and I am curious as to what other people listen to when they want to go for that extra mile. I tend to listen to the following: 1) LCD Soundsystem - Sound of Silver 2) Girl Talk - Feed the Animal 3) Rage Against the Machine - self titled 4) Sonic Youth - Daydream Nation 5) Metallica - Kill 'Em All 6) Clipse - Hell Hath No Fury 7) Weezer - Blue Album
  13. Just came back from seeing Grizzly Bear at the Historic Sixth & I Synagogue in Downtown DC. The band itself was pretty good live, and the sound is nice: it's a fairly "live" sounding environment, but the sound guy managed to take off a lot of the edge that you would normally get from a live room (so no sharp sibilants and too much reverb), but managed to make the band sound bigger than it actually is. Now, the bad part: the set is fucking short! It started at 8:05 and ended at 8:40, with no encores! And to top it off, TicketMaster's surchages were about 70% of the original ticket.
  14. Woke up, went to the gym, studied for the GRE, and now reading A Theory of Justice and listening to some tunes.
  15. That would be a mistake: don't listen to it.
  16. Metallica Reveal Magnetic New Album | Pitchfork Titled Death Magnetic, release will be September 12. Hopefully this one is less of a turd than St. Anger *shudders*
  17. Aimee Mann last Saturday at the 9:30 club.
  18. I didn't go to the meet, but I did go to the Brickskellar on Friday night to hang out. It was definitely cool to put some faces to names on the Internet, and it was very nice meeting Vicki, Dan, Peter, Mike, Aaron, and I'm trying to remember who else. Hopefully when the next DC meet rolls around, I'll be able to actually attend the meet itself.
  19. So I'm using my MacBook's miniToslink port to connect to my DAC. I've been using this set up for two days now. But today, all of a sudden, I would get random noises--it's not clipping--just digital noise, which goes away in five seconds or so. The noise shows up randomly. FYI: I'm using Play as my player, and I set the output to 16/44.1 in AudioMidi utility.
  20. Alright guys, I'm getting off work. See you at the Brickskellar at 9. Grawk: I'll call you when I get there.
  21. Sweet, one more day! I could totally use some beer from the Brickskellar after this week at work.
  22. Serves me right for not paying close attention.
  23. Well, it'd be nice to know where to meet up initially, considering that I need to plan my routes since I have no car:D
  24. So are the plans for Friday night finalized?
