Damn, that was an intense episode. I love it.

    Lost

No spoilers please, for those of us on the west coast.

    Lakers!

Dyed in the wool Lakers fan here. Speaking of the Gasol trade: it was absolutely thievery. They gave away nothing to get one of the best post players in the league. Compared to what Phoenix and Dallas are giving away, Lakers made it with their roster intact.
  4. Also, the O2 has some ridiculously long decay. I was just listening to The Bad Plus, and on the first track, the piano player just POUNDS it at the end of the track, and when he stops, the decay time goes on forever it seems like.
  5. Thanks for the advice; the only reason I put it on bottom is because it's actually longer than the Stello, but if heat's a concern, then I'll put it back on top. While you are here Justin: if I set both pots to maximum, is that effectively no attenutation? I like my Stello as a pre-amp, and plus it has a remote, so it's much easier to adjust the volume that way.
  6. O2s lying down: KGSS: O2+KGSS: Whole system:
  7. 1) The Fragile: on the bass specifically, I have to say again that the resolution on the O2s are amazing. The drum and the bass line are kept separate, and if you so choose, you can focus on whichever you like without effort. Second, these things go looow, lower than my sub, which is -3db at 22Hz. Impact is phenomenal, but even if it goes lower than my sub, I don't get the full-body experience, which is weird, because my brain is telling me that the O2s go lower, but it doesn't "feel" that way, if you know what I mean.
  8. What do you want to know specifically?
  9. Just listened to "Starfuckers Inc." on The Fragile to test how fast the attack is on the O2, since there's a ton of bass transients on that track. The result: the fastest attack I've ever heard in a headphone. This can definitely rock out.
  10. So, I just got the KGSS today after waiting for the post office to deliver it for a week. First impressions (and this is with no real warm up; I just plugged the O2 in and started listening): this is a highly resolving combo, and it does so in a way that is not pushy. Example: I just listened to "All My Friends" on LCD Soundsystem's Sound of Silver album. On my HD650s, I could tell that in the beginning, he uses two pianos, but on the HD650s, there's no depth that separates them, and they sound about the same volume-wise. On the O2 + KGSS system, I could clearly hear that he mixed one piano way farther back than the other one; not only that, he plays one piano much louder than the other one.
  11. Mine comes with a normal bias and an additional pro plug.
  12. I thought the game was over when Brady connected with Moss on that TD, but damn, Eli came up HUGE. Gotta give props where props are due.
  13. W5000s are really airy as far as closed cans go, but then again, they don't isolate all that much, and they definitely leak. Also, FWIW, the W5000s have the AT house sound, which to me means a slightly biting upper midrange that got fatiguing over time. I hear it to some extent in almost every AT headphone I've heard (L3000s excluded), but that might not bother you. AKG K271S with velour pads: I like them because they actually isolate, but even with velour pads they never got comfortable for me because my big ears made sure that they never became fully circumaural. Plus you need some serious power to make them sing. Denon D5000: This one has a slightly "u" shaped frequency response, meaning mids are a tad recessed in comparison to the bass and highs. I would not use them for critical listening, but for casual listening they are good enough. But again, they don't isolate that much and definite leaks. Those are my closed headphone experiences. The best I've had is the L3000s, but they are out of your budget.
  14. IIRC, Frank Cooter also built a DIY amp for the RS-1s during last year's Head-Fest.
  15. From Mark (plaidplatypus) on HF.
  16. So I just read Darth Nut's review of the O2s, and wow, it is without a doubt the best review of a piece of audio equipment I have ever read, hands down, no contest. What really blows my mind is how conceptually clear the review was. He basically articulated a coherent conceptual framework for audio review and applied it to an actual piece of audio equipment in a consistent, logical manner and backed it up with supporting evidence. It combines both his subjective perceptual experiences and his concepts in a way that shows the reader his thought process. Honestly this should be required reading for anyone interested in describing audio equipments.
  17. Holy shit, 110WPC? How do you even have volume range? On my old FirstWatt 10WPC amp, I would only turn my pre-amp to about 12 o'clock before I have to dial it down again. Unless you listen to music LOUD.
  18. KGSS+O2 MKI on its way.

    K1000 = hope

Meh, they are still headphones. I sold both my L3000s and K1000s and happy with my speaker setup.
  20. Can someone tell me more about the Rockhopper KGSS?
  21. Well, it's not that far from the truth, we probably have to wait another 5 years for a new WTC album.
  22. Any Bay Area head-casers going to the April Sonny Rollins concert in Berkeley? http://www.calperfs.berkeley.edu/presents/season/2007/jazz/sr.php If there are, we should meet up and grab a beer or something.

    REL

The 22Ls are rated at ~30Hz extension at -6db, so there is a pretty big roll off, which would explain he wants more bass.
  24. I got the active versions.
