Great work Marc! I have a few observations/questions. What unregulated psu clamps/cap are you referring to (the 10k uf caps?? Aren't those mounted on the pcb?). How would using the stock 10k and 3.3kuf caps be cutting corners? Is there evidence that more capacitance is needed here/beneficial... based on rules of thumb, or precedent from other similar projects? Any downsides to putting in bigger psu filter caps? Can we include a nice power indicator led or two? Blue or violet color Three values of loading resistors/caps (at least the most popular ones 1k, 47k, other? 0pf, 100pf, other?) along with selector switch(es) for that purpose? Could be done manually in the box if necessary. Just a thought. Is the diode bridge a soft recovery type? Can it be? Does it matter? Will any of the 1.5" tall heatsinks fit/work? Trying to fit into a 2" tall case, if feasible. Same comment for the large caps. Cheers Pete

The clear anodized faceplates are fine. The black anodize of the body is rough textured and gets marked up easy. They should clear coat it.

I had the same issue with a low gain setting on my Dynamite. Upping the gain to 10 helped. Also had to redo my grounding scheme (lift the grounds from the xlr inputs) to get rid of the remaining small amount of scratchiness in the pot.

There is SACD support on the 80gb model. Don't know if it is converted to PCM or not (I only have the 40gb model) I know Redbook is upconverted to 172.4 khz PCM and sent out via HDMI. Not sure what comes out of the optical.

Folks, I called up Par Metals and got the following price quote on a 20 series case 12"x12"x2" tall 0.18" thick aluminum face plate clear Anodized, and grey-painted body, coutersunk screws all around. $62.50 ea Same case but 3" tall $67.xx ea I didn't catch what she said after 67... This should fit both boards flat, and one or two toroids as well. Let me know if anyone is interested. Cheers, Pete

The PS3 is one of the best Bluray palyers out there right now, and mine works great! IMO the PS3 is the best price/perf ratio player out there right now.

Auricaps are very good for output caps in the signal path. For power rails and decoupling I doubt that boutique caps make much of a difference over a good quality electrolytic like Panasonic FC/FM or the higher end Nichicons.

Power conditioner can help if you have noisey power going to a unit with poor filtering in the Power Supply section. Try it with and without and without the conditioner. If you don't hear a difference, return the power conditioner. You may want to have one for power surges, etc though. Power cable.... not for a cd player, unless yours consumes 10 amps, then maybe.... shielding of the power cable could help in an RFI contaminated environment. Definitely would not spend any serious money here. Just get a nice decent build quality and thickness cable and be done with it <$100 Room treatments can help if done right. Depends on your set up.
