  1. I torrented the flac last night in minutes. Had something like 400 seeds iirc.
  2. blue note sacd subscription.
  3. Me too! In fact, I am so impressed with this one that I think I'm going to get out of pen collecting completely and refocus on small press sff collecting. Now if only nightshade would come up with the PSS LE I ordered two years ago.
  4. I heard Nate's amp with the Hertsens DAC, and it was the funk shit nasty. A truly godly amp that brought out an incredibly full sound to my RS-1s. Rivaled only by the sound I heard from Voltron's Rockhopper Balanced Beta22 with RS-1s.
  5. I vote jazz, in the hard bop vein. Or just get medeski martin and wood.
  6. scd-1 > bhse > 0II was probably rig of the meet. I highly valued not just its sound, buts also its wonderful hugeness and beautiful silver simplicity. I also listened to the HE90 briefly on this rig, and obviously didn't have time to appreciate its $10,000 headphone greatness, but in a meet setting I was more immediately pleased with the HE1.2b out of the WooAudio GES. I was probably heavily affected my by knowledge of the price of these two headphones. Awesome pics of Justin. Those rooms were really nice though, Mike did a great job picking a sweet (suite?) hotel. Elephas, you will be very pleased with your BHSE. I can't wait to see what the final chassis design is like.
  7. And I'll leave you with a pic of our very own n_maher asking for amp advice from his mentor:
  8. Okie dokie, I'm going to look over my other impressions and either just recopy them for the record or update them: Some Moth DAC > EC Balancing Act > apuresound recabled HD600 (Eddie Current/Craig) - The first rig I listened to at my first meet, way early in the morning when almost no one was in the room. It really did sound beautiful, doing all the things that tubes do well. The HD600's bass was so full. I actually checked twice to make sure they weren't HD650s. Exemplar Denon 2900 > Heed Obelisk > K1000 (boomana/Vicki) - My first time with the K1000. Vicki had a gigantic power amp for them (forgot what kind), but there was a hum originating from her preamp (Extreme) that was exacerbated by further connection to the power amp that made it way to loud. So instead we just went straight to the Obelisk which is an integrated. I see why people like the K1000, its very engaging and easy to tailor the sound to your tastes by turning the speakers in and out. Great bass, but it didn't go to the lowest of the lows. And there is that AKG midrange people are always talking about! The highs were a bit on the bright side for me, but by no means unbearable. Apogee Duet > Toole Audio Balanced Mosfet Amp > HHF-1 (grawk/Dan) - I listened to this one a few times over the weekend, and I really liked it. Definitely an easy to listen to rig, one that really does nothing wrong, but it doesn't do anything that makes you reach out and say "woah", but thats fine really. Later I listened to the Pico pushing an HD650. Completely different setup then Dans so its hard to compare the Duet to the Pico, but if you put a gun to my head I'd say the Pico, mainly because its enclosure is sexier and to support Justin. Cyrus CDP > Corda Move > ESW9 (nightwoundstime/Matt) - The ESW9 is a great little phone. I was very surprised at the thumping bass. I was expecting it to be more anemic like the w5000, but it is very different. Definitely a rocking can, great for portable or home use if you're willing to lay out the cash. Having said that I don't have much experience with other portable type cans of this nature. They aren't really my thing so take what I say with a grain of salt. Grado Sonata Reference > Massive Gorgeous Denon DD Turntable > CI Audio Phono > MPX3 (three 6SN7s) > HD650 (nightwoundstime/Matt) - Yeeeeaaahhh, vinyl! Was lucky enough to sit with Matt and listen to the 45RPM of "In Rainbows". I love vinyl, and this rig sounded great. Of course, if it were me I'd throw a DL-103, cinemag sut, and tubed phono stage up in the mix. I'm much more sensitive to different components in a vinyl rig then in differences between digital rigs, but I guess thats part of the joy of vinyl is the very high level of control the listener has over his or her source. i'm fading fast and tired. many more rigs to post impressions on, but this is what I got now.
  9. i announced i'm releasing a new IEM, since every other company in the entire world is. the PJ530 will be arriving soon! it'll be cool because you can put it in your ear and hear music with your protable amps and download MP3 files. Jinp, I guarantee you there are no pictures of me drunk. everyone I met was supernice, and that includes Jude, who introduced himself to me in the pens restroom and helped me work the paper towel machine. i'm home and need to spend some QT with the GF. more impressions and stuff late night.
  10. at the airport now. Dan is around here somewhere. This was a fantastic weekend. The gear was of course sweet, but meeting all the people is what will truly enrich my continued audio experience within this community. I got plenty of sleep this weekend, but I'm still exhausted! Must be all the stimuli and socializing that has worn me out. Note type impressions: 1. Finally listened to a pico, it was amazing with the hd650 listening to the wall mfsl. Just sick ridiculous nasty. <interlude, hang out with dan, fly to pensacola, at baggage claim now> Sorry I missed your goodbye dan! It was a pleasure meeting you. 2. I'm not sure the d5000 is as great as I thought it was.
  11. vicki's pair is bassy and it has as much bass as an rs-1 with flats, less bass then an hf-1 with flats or ps-1 with flats. However, the bass does run lower then any grado does.
  12. justin's glorious rig has made me realize that I'm not doing my o2s justice amp wise. I'm thinking that I might just concentrate on dynamics and my speakers for the immediate future. I can't afford to buy a new hirez source and a stat amp. Plus I already have the beta22 coming in soon, and I am sure I will live with it for a long time. Makes me glad someone else snagged that kgss humanflyz was selling. So I'll either sell the 02 or per dan's suggestion, "throw it in the closet". I'll probably sell my gs1k to fund a d5000.
  13. balanced beta 22 and dan's balanced m3 are both kick ass.
  14. I respectfully disagree.
  15. I concur. I went back and spent time with a familiar recording, again the mfsl sacd of heartbreaker. Just lovely, and the system is damn impressive looking to boot. Two huge hunks of silver with the black o2, very cool. In the room now for a delicious firehouse salad, but I need to head downstairs soon. There is a prize drawing at 4pm and mike said he would rig it so I win vicki's r10! Finally I'll get to own these cans after literally hours of wanting it. Also nate's menace does to grados what no other amp does. Woah.
  16. just spending some quality time with vicki's exemplar 2910 > extreme (complete with hum upgrade) > r10. These phones leave an aching feeling in my gut they are so good. I did not expect to like these cans, but I love them. They are just about perfect in all ways. The bass is out of this world! I don't know what people are talking about when they say they are bass shy. My only qualm is there is a bit o' heat somewhere in the midrange, but honestly its more of a warmth that is quite enjoyable. The decay on this phone is marvelous. In fact, it manages to pull of all the audiophile tricks while still being damn musical.
  17. al's bel canto > rockhopper > ps-1 with flats. My first time with the ps-1. They are certainly good cans, with amazing bass and perhaps the crunchiest gradoiest midrange I've ever heard. But they ain't $2500 good.
  18. doxxie's e5 > massive attack > headphile k340. I see why he loves this rig. Sounds much better then my memories of my stock k340. It handled the crazy midrange of the mfsl heartbreaker with aplomb. Woo ges > heaudio stat. Very nice! Typical stat bass, but certainly not anemic. Very engaging and in your face. Makes me question its potential in long term listening. Still it was lovely while I was there. Currently with justin in his glorious scd-1 > bh > o2 rig.
  19. Need to take up a break from listening to catch up on impressions. I'm two rigs behind and am currently with the menace. This fucking amp. Jesus Christ.

listened to a few songs on the much anticipated (for me) 4070 in the stax/ttvj room. Ultra comfortable cans. Powered by a stax amp I can't remember and some ridiculous meridian cdp. Pretty much did everything right without being showy, except the treble might be a little much. I'll be going back for another listen later, hopefully with my own tunes this time.
  21. also I'm using this thread like a notepad to remember impressions. Spent some time in the hr room. The audiophile desktop with biwire monoblocks is great! Warm and inviting sound. Tyll and co have a good thing going here. Also, I think I might really like the d5000. Awesome bass, seems like it'd be non fatiguing. Not as similar to the hd650 as other impressions have led me to believe. They are probably the most comfortable cans I've ever worn to boot. I'd love to spend many hours with this can in my rig. This is all so exciting.
  22. Porcupine tree out of nightwpundstime's Cyrus cdp into corda move into esw9 was great. I was very surprised at the thumping bass. I was expecting it to be more anemic like the w5000, but it is very different. Definitely a rocking can.
  23. dans duet into ta balanced mosfet into hhf-1. Just lovely, just awesome. I love the way ambient mic recordings sound on this rig. Its not super reach out and grab you audiophile type of rig, but rather one that does nothing wrong, everything right, and that I could listen to for hours.
  24. vickie's exemplar denon into heed obelisk integrated into k1k. My first time with k1ks. Lovely midrange, surprisingly good, stat-like bass. Just a tad bright in the highs. Ray samuels has on a lot of cologne. Smells nice though.
  25. spending some time with the ec balancing act and an apuresound balanced hd600. This amp is ridiculous. I had no idea the hd600 was capable of this much bass.
