  1. Yup got an Apollo. Love it. Just got a buffalo DAC as well.
  2. I'm in team digital source dead last, but I still think it's important. Just not nearly as important as speakers/room or headphones.
  3. I concur that Mad Men is up there. Waiting to see how they end it before I make the final call, but it has the potential to be the great american drama.
  4. Happy birthday naaman!
  5. By above average and pretty solid you mean best television drama since The Wire right?
  6. Happy birthday dude!
  7. Happy birthday late!
  8. you can hook up an external hard drive to it as well.
  9. 24/96 Binaural from HDTracks. Seriously thought I left my speakers on when I started listening through the HD800. Spooky good sound.
  10. -I like how it takes the computer out of the equation. I know other players do this, but the Sony's implementation looks pretty slick and easy, even if the software is proprietary -I think it looks great -I'm sure it has that Sony ES sound, so you probably already know if you like it or not -For the price I think its a contender. $2,000 seems to be the sweet spot for hi-rez/DSD capable DACs If I was starting over I would put this on my consideration list.
  11. http://www.theabsolutesound.com/articles/sony-hap-z1es-hdd-audio-player/ review up on the absolute sound. i think this is a very interesting player.

That's per speaker. Still pretty spendy.

i've had the cyclinder version of the PB12-NSD (few models back, same deal) for like 5-6 years. Still going strong, great budget sub.
  15. I do own and love my Rega Brio-R, but I'd add a word of caution: On my model, there is a slight buzzing sound coming from the speakers, moreso on the left side. I sit very close to my speakers (desktop rig, 3-4 feet) so I can hear it when music is not playing. When music is playing I can't hear it. I assumed this was just a ground loop/dirty system noise type problem for a while, but a couple weeks ago I got curious and googled it. Apparently a large group of owners at the What Hi Fi forum have the exact same issue, even down to it being slightly louder out of the left speaker. One of them emailed Rega, and Rega responded it was a known issue having to do with the transformer. They don't offer any kind of repair, with everything crammed into such a small enclosure there isn't anything they can do to fix it. Some people have no noise from their Brio-R, some people do. Luck of the draw I guess. With you sitting further away from your speakers you might not notice it at all. Otherwise I am a big fan of the Brio-R, echoing what Todd said. Plenty of power for my Rega RS1s, simple layout and design, great sound. And the phono stage is great, doesn't sound budget at all. Of course I use a Rega cart so I'm assuming the phono is made specifically for Rega MM carts. It can be had for stupid good prices used on audiogon, and come to think buying used you could ask the seller if that model has the hum/buzz issue.
  16. Well holy shit. I wasn't breathing for the last 20 minutes of that episode. Brilliantly shot.
  17. i've thought about selling my BC-13 box many times because all I listen to are the mono CDs now.
  18. Put it in the Vitamix! Just had Thom ka and pad Thai. Might not have spelled that right. And my phone capitalized things inappropriately. Anyway Thai food is the best. Except for Indian food which is king of foods.
  19. happy birthday!!

the music snob community at large shits themselves over NMH. I myself have never quite understood the appeal, but I'm open minded to the possibility of one day "getting" them. Hope you enjoy the show, let us know how it was.
  21. I don't know if they offered this before, but benchmark just updated their website, and I noticed they offer the D and L options, without remote, for $100 less. So $1700, if you don't need a remote and preamp functionality or the headphone amp.
