  1. So a couple of weekends ago we drove down to Indy to watch the inaugural Indy Grand Prix on the Speedway's road course. Driving there in the morning, I lost in a game of "dodge the I-65 massive potholes", nailing one with the right-front wheel at about 80 MPH. At first I thought I was ok as there was a slight bend to the wheel and no air loss over then next three days. On the fourth day however, I noticed a hairline crack just under that slight bend. So on went the spare. Tonight I took the GTI in for 30,000 mile service and while there asked how much to replace the wheel. I knew the answer would be laughable - I was not disappointed. $565 for one 18" OEM wheel. So I just did some surfing on TireRack.com and found I can get a full set of 18" wheels that weigh 5 lbs. per wheel less for $660. I think I know which way I'll go.
  2. OK, I can buy that.
  3. Looks very good Adrian. No pics, but we did New York strips at 128F for 2.5 hours, then seared for 60 seconds per side on the grill.. Very tender and juicy. I've read that sous vide meat does not need to be rested, but that may be bad info. We have not been resting and have seen juice like you show in your pic, but the actual meat shows no loss of juiciness. That's a word, right?
  4. Sous vide scrambled eggs, bacon and rye toast. Eggs were cooked 20 minutes @ 167 F.
  5. Happy Birthday Chris!!
  6. Joseph Arthur's tribute album.
  7. Happy Birthday Sir!!
  8. You're right Gene. Tonight went well, but going back to Minnesota makes me think this series will go seven.
  9. Happy Birthday Ari!
  10. Yep. We did boneless breasts the other night with a light sear after using the propane torch and it was so moist with just a touch of crunch outside.
  11. How was the brisket Mike? The 36 hour flank steak we did was filet tender.
  12. Happy Birthday Shelly!! I hope it's an awesome day.
  13. If you come to Chicago Shelly either Bryan or Debbie and I could most likely put you up. Think about it. Lots to do here (Dreadnaught.....).
  14. Congrat to Jim, son and Mom!
  15. Hawks up 1-0.
  16. I know! They're just pups.
  17. See the eating thread.
  18. 36 hour flank steak with chimichuri sauce and a wonderful corn and bean salad whipped up by Debbie. The steak was as tender as filet and with sherry vinegar the salad was great.
  19. Put a flank steak in a 129 F water bath this morning. Letting it go 36 hours for dinner tomorrow night.
  20. Sorry for your loss Mikey. It scares the crap out of me when people younger than me pass.
  21. Have to differ here Gene. I'm rooting for the Wild.
  22. Rangers win. Dinny, you can exhale now.
  23. Yeah, watched a good part of that game and the Rangers just couldn't get a clue. But they have another chance Dinny.
  24. Agreed. But it still looks like the Sharks wheels have come off tonight. I will cheer for them in game 7. Fuck there's been some intense hockey so far in these playoffs.
  25. Happy Birthday Ryan!!
