  1. Great and good luck with the new system. I do find the picture quite nice with our LCD.
  2. From what I remember, the 981 is considered to be much better with video because of the Farouda chip, the 980 is better with audio because "they" say so. I think the 981 is not very good with audio at all, so "better" audio with the 980 will still probably be sucky for someone like you with real taste.
  3. Well for "cheap" components you are on the right track with the Oppo. I have the 981 HD in one room with the audio through either a Scott NOS dac or a Spitfire ( I forget) into a Charlize II out to an old pair of Polk's. The Farouda chip in the Oppo 981 is what sold me as well as the ability to play almost every CD format DVD audio but not BR. For $230 USD$, it is good value, the video quality is nice, can accept multiple input (480-1080) but the audio is not very good so you will need to use the spdif out to a dac.
  4. I agree and that is what I have been doing for the past three years, but sometimes you have to learn lessons the hard way. I have gained more valuable information from forums than any retailer. But even on forums like the other place, you have to really analyze what and by whom you are being advised. In fact, the only thing learned from retailers is that how well I got snowed buy a guy with a store front.
  5. Confirmed my suspicions as well, but what do I know I am just another gullible customer taken to the cleaners by a "High End" audio store. This is one of the many unfortunate reasons why I no longer frequent audio retailers, I have found them long on sales pitches and short on any worth while advice. Bummer, can't seem to trust anyone nowadays.
  6. Great idea. I just finish building a 20 foot power cord with Oyaide plugs, perhaps I will hand it to her when she is in the shower.
  7. If I cryo my sister in law, will she stop yammering at our family get togethers and start to make some sense?
  8. You are the best!!!
  9. Yeah but can you build a case for her?
  10. Agreed.
  11. Game over.................
  12. My stand is better than your stand....
  13. Get one and have Steve build a nice burl and zebrawood case for it.
  14. You da man!
  15. No Steve, you do not exist. You are just a figment of your own imagination. Now how about imagining you making a headphone stand for moi. (Hints unashamedly).
  16. I would take the Dalis over the Merlins (at any price) any day. I have heard both driven with sources way out of your budget yet the Dalis kicked the heck out of the Merlins IMHO. I was shocked because the Merlins have a great rep but when I actually heard them, ehhhh. Again just my humble observations for what it is worth.
  17. X2, thanks for the heads up.
  18. Jus' trying to keep you around for a few more years that's all. Or at least keep you around 'til my 701's fully burn in.

  20. Steel cut oatmeal. It is good for the heart and the lower G.I. tract.
  21. What is so great about Tyll is that he is the consummate professional, a real industry innovator, and is confident enough not to take himself too seriously. If you ever get to meet and spend some time talking to him you will be impressed with what a genuine person he is. He is the real deal, as long as he keeps his Hawaiian shirt on.
  22. Nah, that is not too expensive, instead of your Shun you should buy this: http://www.korin.com/product.php?pid=1035&cat=&subcat=&subsubcat=&df=knife&catname=&subcatname=&subsubcatname=&mnum=HNE-KYA-K330&PHPSESSID=ae304766fdeda54ad8e5a216fa7a39a2 now that is EXPENSIVE.
