  1. Aerius, thanks for the great impressions and review. The Trafomatic does detail very well, voices whether doing jazz harmonies or in a choral composition you hear the detail of individual voices rather than a cacophony of music. For the $900 price point I agree this will be one amp that is hard to match, it looks nice too.
  2. I seriously doubt anything you conjure up would ever be an "embarassment" so I am looking forward to pics and CanJam impressions. Perhaps unsexy will be the new bling?
  3. So Pelikan or..................?
  4. For the most part, an apt description but the right amp can make them sound like an entirely different set of cans. A change for the better IMHO.
  5. I agree with guzziguy, the K701s have always sounded mellow and perhaps a bit laid back to my Pinot damped ears. The degree of detail differs greatly between system such as one of Tyll's HR desktops mated to a Wadia--airy and wide sound stage to DigiPete's DynaHi mated to a Saturn - very airy even wider soundstage and super quiet with a mid bass smudgie kid of thingy. Amps will make a difference here because I think they reall need a lot of umph to get the job done with these cans.
  6. Damn! So now we are talking cart, phonostage and even tone arm matching to get the components to work together, and at $150 to $600 a pop for cartridges this can get very expensive real fast. This is the very reason I am hesitant to take the leap in vinyl goodness right now I am having a tough enough time finding speakers that work well with my different amps, now complicate that with the whole TT chain and I just might switch from Pinots to heroin. David, where how did you decide on these cartridges to audition was it BB?
  7. .......especially fellow speaker dudes and dudettes. That $1K price point is a toughie I will have to think about it and get back to you. Because unlike "the other place" I won't give you my opinion based upon what my second cousin's sister-in-laws's hairdresser's uncle read in last year's Stereophile or heard on Oprah, I would like to give you my opinion, FWIW, on things I have actually auditioned. Welcome to HeadCase J, kumbaya.......................
  8. They have some really nice high quality cabinets on the web site, too bad they don't make red maple butcher block amp platforms as a side line.
  9. Like Dusty says, "get both". There can never be too much (wife/mistrees) goodness.
  10. Nice colors!
  11. Awesome! Who 'da thought a young Japanes girl would want to play a Kansas song at a recital in Japan.

  20. I will be the first to acknowledge that I may not use tech terminology correctly but I think my point was pretty clear. I admit I am a bit of a tech woosie so often times I address terms generically this is a weakness I have and accept. Is it more important to pick nits with my terminology or follow the thread?
  21. HD=memory=music storage Fryes sell 500g=$150=cheap ergo, cheap=buytwo=lots of music
  22. ........excepy you probably couldn't afford such a big upgrade so I would recommend you sell me your RS1's then upgrade to a Zana Deuex (which I have heard) or a B22 (which I haven't but other's have but do your own search).
  23. Memory is so cheap I use redundant external HD's for my tunes, two 1/2 T Seagates just in case.
